White (albacore) tuna!
« on: November 02, 2018, 01:04:32 PM »
Guys, I was at Home Bargains today, and they had white albacore tuna in olive oil, in glass jars.  Can't remember the price exactly, but it wasn't bad ... £1.29 or something around there.

Yay!  No more cat food tuna for a while!

Found white tuna in Sainsbury's also... their own 'premium' branding, in a tin.  YAY!
Pretty dear, though... I think it was £2.99 for just a standard size tuna tin.  :-\\\\

Looks like I'm the only one that's albacore-obsessed.  ;D  I love tuna mayonnaise on sandwiches, salads and just in a bowl on it's own.  Just. can. not. stomach normal tuna... it IS like cat food!
I'm going to the US next month (OMG, can't believe how fast this year has flown in!!), and might bring a few cans back with me if it's a lot cheaper over there.

I definitely prefer the white tuna, but I'm a cheapskate!

What was his secret?  Will he tell you?

My secret is a billion diced dill pickles... and occasionally, my husband will now ask for "pickle salad"... winning!

My grad school roommate put pepper in hers, and she ate it on Ritz crackers.  Sandwiches were too pedestrian for her.  She only ate albacore, too.

my tuna mixture is albacore, mayo, crème fraiche, sliced black olives, salt & pepper.  I frequently put it on pumpkin seed Ryvita instead of bread.

That sounds interesting.  I would try it.  Probzbly without the salt, though... is salt a vital part of the flavour profile?

My husband won't go near a black olive... and he eats everything!  He once put wasabi on ice cream just to see what it was like (mind you, he only did that once...).  I wonder if my husband would try this if offered to him.

Probably not to a normal person... I put salt on anything savoury. Probably too much salt.

Some things need salt to taste right (chips!).  And when I'm refilling the salt mill, I confess I'll pop a rock or three in my mouth and let it/them dissolve on my tongue.  But I don't usually add a lot salt to my food, normally.  I think you're probably closer to normal than I am.
