Ready to Apply - some final questions
« on: November 06, 2018, 09:37:19 PM »
Starting a new topic in the correct category so I can get my last minute questions answered!  Thanks to everyone who has offered their wisdom, encouragement and commiserations so far.

My current situation is that my family and I went over to the UK in August 2018. They stayed to settle and I came back in September to wait out the 6 month period required to meet the financial requirement - applying via category D

I just want to make sure I am understanding the appendix 2 properly and filling in correctly.

1. How often do my sponsor and I meet:  I wrote that we have lived together from 1999-2018 - do I need to be more specific?
2. Last time I saw my sponsor: September 13, 2018 which is when I left the UK
3. For the question about children I wasn't sure if they meant from a previous relationship since it seems sort of like they are referring to children that don't live with you - otherwise should I just put our children's names and put an approximate amount that we spend on them per month?
4. For the method of meeting financial requirement we are going with Category D using cash savings and my 401k
in section 3F do I check the Category D alone box or Category D combined with other income?

I think that's it - thanks in advance for your help!

No problem, but it's actually easier for us to help if you keep all the questions in one thread (so we don't have to search through the whole forum to check what we've already discussed) :).

You'll need to cover the period since you returned to the US as well... to prove your relationship is still subsisting (otherwise they may wonder why you haven't seen each other since September).

So, something like: 'Lived together in the US 1999- 2018, but currently living apart until I can apply for the visa"

Quote
3. For the question about children I wasn't sure if they meant from a previous relationship since it seems sort of like they are referring to children that don't live with you - otherwise should I just put our children's names and put an approximate amount that we spend on them per month?

Which question about children? Can you write the question numbers in too?

If you mean 1.27, they mean ANY children your sponsor has, including your own children together.

And secondly, yes... just approximate how much you spend on raising your children each month.

4. For the method of meeting financial requirement we are going with Category D using cash savings and my 401k
in section 3F do I check the Category D alone box or Category D combined with other income?

Category D alone, because the 401K is cash savings, not income.

Thanks very much - I did post these questions in an ongoing thread a few days ago and figured they got lost in the ether so that’s why I started the new one.

Anyway, thanks for the reply! We actually lived in the UK 1999-2005 and California 2005-2018.

I have documents covering that entire time period to show we’ve been living together. I have the boarding passes from August trip to UK and what’s app logs and email subject logs that cover September to now. So I think I’m good with all that.

I’m planning on sending original docs plus copies of everything on US letter size paper. I’ll post my document list tomorrow for review. I anticipate being able to apply by the 12th - just waiting on one last Barclays statement which is en route! Getting excited

In regards to your cover letter, you probably don't need to mention the living together since marriage part, because that should go in your husband's sponsor letter instead, where he describes a short history of your relationship.

For the finances, you don't actually need the letter explaining the sources of savings... because you declare all the sources in the table on page 11 (question 3.75) of Appendix 2 anyway, so no need to repeat it in a letter. You DO need the letter from your sister-in-law, though.

I would put your court documents from the misdemeanor charge with your documents at the top of the package (after your passports), so that a) it doesn't get missed and b) all of your personal documents are together.

Thanks for your input - I’ll adjust my cover letter - I thought it was a case of TMI but my thinking was I’d rather have too much than not enough! I’ll just leave my visa info and explanation of the misdemeanor in my letter. I have the letter from my SIL so no problem there.

I guess that’s it - just one more piece of paper and I can finally hit “submit” - thank you so much for helping me get this far. Will keep you posted how things progress!

We transferred all our US savings to the UK last year so we would be sure to have enough on the date of application
Do I need to include the bank statements from US account and UK account showing the wire transfers or is it just ok to have the 6 months of UK statements and leave it at that?

My 401k statements are generated quarterly so I have originals that were mailed to me for April-September. I called our account administrator to see if she could generate a statement for just the month of October and the only thing she could do is send me an account summary for October1-31. It's basically printed from the website, I could generate one myself for any date range.  She sent it to me via email. If I send her email and print the summary will that be sufficient or should I ask her to mail the summary and include a letter explaining this is the only way to show one month of activity? Waiting until the end of December to get the proper statement is not an option. I don't want to wait until January to apply  :-\\\\

No, you only need to include statements covering the most recent 6 months. So, if the money was transferred from the US bank account MORE THAN 6 months ago, then you don't need to provide any statements from that account because it is not relevant to the visa.

If the money was transferred within the LAST 6 months, then you will need to include statements from both accounts to show the money was in an account in your name(s) at all times during the 6 months.

The email will not be sufficient as it is not an original document. You need the original document sent in the mail and/or the letter.

Application Submitted!! It’s been a year in the making. Gads what a relief!

Of course, the VFS site was acting up so I haven’t been able to pay for priority and shipping, but my biometrics appointment isn’t until Monday so I’ll just keep trying.

I’m excited and a bit wary - just because this new process has so many unknowns. I told my family to prepare for a long wait and that I’ll probably not be home for Christmas like we hoped- that’s a bummer, but it’s out of my hands now. I just hope the UKVI gods shine favorably on me - lol

So glad to see another person who is stuck with quarterly statements! I finally got our (hubby and I both work for same employer) 401k administrator to agree (when we are ready) to print a quarter to date statement and mail it to us when we are ready. Talk about pulling teeth!

Fingers crossed for you! :)
