Seattle family moving to Scotland
« on: November 28, 2018, 12:46:00 AM »
Hi all,

My wife and two small children (2 and 5) currently live in Seattle and are planning a move to Scotland next year in July. My wife is Scottish and much of her family is based in Glasgow, along with two brothers located outside of London. We're moving to be closer to her family, experience life outside of the US, and break out of our current routine.

We're just at the start of figuring out how we'll do all of this in the next six months, but are looking forward to the challenge! This forum was recommended to me by someone else who recently moved and I'm grateful to have this resource!

Glasgow here!  It's a great place to live, and a move like that will definitely give your family a chance to live a different sort of life. Good experience for the kiddies, to get out of the USA.  ;D

Welcome! I did this move in February and it's been great! Sadly we are off to England for awhile for work reasons but it's amazing here. Best of luck!

Thanks all! I've noticed some of you have documentation timelines listed in your signatures, what's that about? Is that for folks to see how long it's taken others to go through the process?

Welcome! Many of us are family immigrants. Have a look in the visa section and the experienced members will be able to answer questions and help with anything specific to your application :) (everyone's is slightly different but it's a check box visa, so you just have to provide the right evidence for all the categories)

Hi Philnick,
We moved over from Arlington (Snohomish county) in 2013.
Bring your rain gear, as Scotland gets more rain than the lower part of England.
But like much of Seattle, it is rain without really raining.

Best of luck.
We've fallen in love with the country. Hopefully you and yours will also.
