Questions about Life in the UK Test
« on: January 10, 2019, 11:18:00 AM »
Hi all!

It's been a long time! It's the new year and it's the year my wife can claim ILR! 5 Years has flown! Hope everybody is okay?

My wife arrived in the UK 9th May 2014 so I understand she can apply from 11th April 2019? Or has anything changed or miss anything?

Well, because it's ILR she obviously has to do her Life in the UK test. Reaching out to see how does she apply to actually do the exam and what are the best resources out there to learn?

Cheers, Ben

There are a ton of online practice tests, stick to the ones that give you the answers though. And have her read the book at least once.

And make sure the address verification mail EXACTLY matches the ID that she uses to take the test or they will refuse her and she will not receive a refund!

Thanks Larrabee.

Is the official book the best one? It may be a stupid question but the official book is 6 year old.

I also read reviews from people on Amazon. A lot of people are saying to download the official app as they found it better?

I had the offical app and used it.  BUT, I definitely still needed to read the book.  There are over 500 questions in the test bank and reading the book helps much more than just using the tests.  And the set up of the app test is slightly different (and a bit easier)  for example, the app will have a question with answer options like 1.   a and d
2.   a and b
3.   a and c
4 .  b and c

Say you know for certain d is correct, then you have your answer.  The actual exam with have radio buttons with "tick all that apply" meaning you don't get that ease of elimination.

I understand, thank you. Is the test difficult providing you read the book? Or is it extremely difficult? Practice tests - is it a case of googling 'Life in the UK practice exams'?

The test is difficult if you do not prepare.  But if you read the book once and do practice tests, you'll be fine.  It's not something to stress over, but it's not something to not take seriously.  And do NOT leave it to the last minute.  Try to knock it out soon.

My husband was the applicant and he took his studying very seriously.  :) He said he was glad he did. He read the book once, did a bunch of tests then re-read the parts he felt he was weak on.

Yes, just google, you'll find lots of them.

Her passport and Residency Card both have her middle name initial not her full middle name.

Do I put in ‘L’ as stated on both documents or her actual middle name of ‘Lynne’?

You want the name to match the BRP exactly.

No need to worry about a HO reference number.

So I am clear, I put

First name: Jenniffer
Middle name: L
Last name: Lagler

Thank you

Also, does her BRP class as her document? So I don’t have to worry about letters matching etc?
