My VAT Reclaiming Experience for Mailed Box
« on: March 07, 2019, 12:38:31 PM »
I got my TOR a month after my box of personal items arrived through USPS Priority Mail. After contacting the National Duty Repayment Centre to reclaim my VAT, I was told they just handle claims that were shipped through couriers or shipping companies. I was directed to the Border Force online chat, since lines (queues) were long. Finally, I was told to download and print form BOR286 to reclaim VAT from mailed boxes. I will send it off tomorrow with all the labels from the box and the customs form from the post pffice. I hope this helps someone.

After contacting the National Duty Repayment Centre to reclaim my VAT, I was told they just handle claims that were shipped through couriers or shipping companies. I was directed to the Border Force online chat, since lines (queues) were long. Finally, I was told to download and print form BOR280 to reclaim VAT from mailed boxes. I will send it off tomorrow with all the labels from the box and the customs form from the post pffice. I hope this helps someone.

Is that the correct name for the form? I've been searching but couldn't finding anything.

Good luck with your claim, please let us know how it goes.  :)

I just received my VAT refund from HMRC for my mailed box. I still have to contact ParcelForce for my post office charge of £12.00.

We're in a similar situation - on the refund form, did everything seem straightforward? We really don't have receipts as it's all personal items like clothing and household odds and ends.
Thanks!

I just had my itemized copy of the US customs form from the package, and all the stickers from the box. I didn't have receipts since all items were used. The form is straight forward. I mailed all of it in with the form.
