Night time cold medicine recommendations?
« on: December 22, 2004, 01:10:59 PM »
I hate to compare, I really do.  But DH misses Nyquil terribly and we've tried a few other options here, nothing seems to work like Nyquil.

He'd like something that was a decongestant and put him to sleep.

Thanks for any ideas.

I miss nyqil as well, and the only thing that will decongest me is something with ephedrine in it, I've been here for just over 2 years and only just figured out that they keep the medicines with ephedrine in them BEHIND the counter at the chemists! (I had thought they didn't exist here). I know they don't have nyquil, but they do have night medicines with ephedrine in them, just look behind the counter. Hope this helps, and good luck!    (cough cough...;)

Keep in mind that decongestants are usually mild stimulants.  If you're looking for something to help you sleep, you'll want to make sure there's an antihistamine in it as well, as the antihistamine will make you sleepy.

I also recommend a little Olbas Oil on a hanky tucked inside your pillowcase to help keep your sinuses clear overnight.  Just don't get it near your eyes!
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Yes, this has helped me get through several bouts of sinusitis.

Night Nurse is very effective - pretty strong stuff, so as they say 'ALWAYS READ THE LABEL'

Otherwise, Vicks Vapour Rub is the mircale cure - especially for stuffy noses

If you want a particular medication, go and talk to a pharmacist - in my experience, they love to share their knowledge, after all, they have trained for years and years ...

Oh, where can you get NEOSPORIN (antibiotic ointment)?  I have been told by pharmacists here that it is only available on prescription here.

That's right - it's by prescription only in the UK.  My mother sends me tubes from the US.

Probably not - but it's the one thing I really can't do without.  Otherwise, I'd be covered in scars... :P

Oh Thanks! :)  I knew there was something that I was forgetting to ask my mom to bring.

Love Neosporin!! That's always on the 'bring back' list!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
