Let the baking begin ...
« on: December 23, 2004, 09:50:22 AM »
The first batch of snickerdoodles are in the oven.  The peanut butter cookie batter is in the fridge chilling.  Have sugar cookies and gingerbread men to bake, then some gingerbread too.

It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas ...

SO jealous!!!

I'm a bit weird on xmas cookies now. I slaved over 10 different kinds last xmas and we drove them from coastal Devon up to Halifax and then on to Carlisle for the DH's family. Well, his brother and GF had already bought us a horrid tin of boring, all-taste-the-same McVities biscuits so we didn't take out our cookies out as it seemed a bit snobbish. Then at the in-laws, we left the cookies out all the time for people to help themselves but I can't count how many times I found a package of digestives lying on top of my lovely cookies.

*sniff*

So I sort of gave up. 'Cept we're not traveling this year and this post has got me in the mood to make a batch or 2!  ;D
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Sometimes, there's just no accounting for taste.  I bet your cookies made McVities taste like cardboard.

I just got back from the store with all the baking essentials--- I think! Cookie Sheets, Rolling Pin, Food coloring---couldn't find christmas cookie cutters -- I decided not to bring mine since they had seen better days; wishing I had! I am sure I will get some for next year but for now we will settle with a cheap pack of everyday cookie cutters that have a star and a circle-- I figure the circle an become an ornament :-).

Am going to also try using the toll house cookie recipe with cadbury chunks---will see how that works!

Helena, I had a devil of a time finding Xmas cookie cutters the first year.  After traipsing around half of London, I finally found them.  Then three years later, lost 'em.  *sigh*  I just have a gingerbread cutter now.

The secret to finding Christmas cookie cutters is forget the cooking shops and go straight to Early Learning Center and buy their play-do Christmas cookie cutters.   :)

I've found xmas cookie cutters at specialty cooking shops in every town I've lived in here!

Brilliant tip, Mindy!  I'll remember that for next year.

Stacey, those recipes are simple, otherwise I'd make a mess of it too.   ;)

That I don't burn, weird huh!  (But Rich showed me how to steam it in the micro, so it's not that hard for me to wreck up)
