A British New Years?

Hey Ya'll:
Just a quick question for you.  In the states my wife and I used to watch the ball drop in times square.  What sort of traditions are there for New Years here?  Will Big Ben be on BBC-1 or something?

It's just pictures of crowds, and at midnight Big Ben and fireworks.  Frankly that program is pretty poor, like the BBC knows people are out partying.

BBC2 has a music program called Jools's Hootenanny.  Might hear some really good music there.

Is there somewhere near where you are where you can see fireworks for real?  A hilltop in any city might do.  You can get a panorama of little backyard displays.  I love it.  Ask your neighbors.

Just to let ya'll know.  Wife and I wound up having a fun, romantic weekend in london.  We watched the fireworks from Blackfriars bridge.  And went to the parade by the house of parliament the next day.  We had heard that the fireworks would be a dissappointment but in fact they were really cool - incorporating the London Eye and everything.
