Advice Perth City Center
« on: September 05, 2019, 06:46:37 PM »
We have a friend who is going to be in Perth on Saturday on their own all afternoon. Can anyone recommend a nice place to eat lunch that's not too far from the train station (within, say, a mile and a half)? Anything that would be good to tell them they can do or see? They'll have about 5 hours between connections.  Thanks!

There is a very large Independence March happening on Saturday so there will be thousands of people in the city center. There are lots of places close to the rail station for getting a meal but a lot of the roads will be closed so not sure what to suggest.  Everything will be within easy walking distance of the station in fact if you walked 1 1/2 miles you would not be in the city anymore ;D

Well, that'll give her something to tell her friends about Scotland when she gets back home! Thanks for the heads-up.

I decided to go over and meet my friend. The bus ride was a hoot - it was full of elderly "YES" supporters, in kilts and all (it seemed) with rather large Saltires! And I got the most amazing history lesson. Nonstop. For the entire trip.  ;) ;) ;) ;)  I understood about 1/3rd of what they were saying.  8)

Perth was nicer than I expected.

Perth is lovely.  :)

We had a nice time. The little museum is great - they have the sarcophagus for Princess Anuk Sun-ah-moon (sp?) from the Hammer "Mummy" film in there! And they had a very nicely done exhibit on the Jacobites.

I was surprised when we hit the re-developed area. Very pleasant pedestrian mall, much larger than I expected, and they were having a pretty good farmer's market, too. :)
