Calling all London mummies ...
« on: December 30, 2004, 04:09:56 PM »
How would the mummies with little ones like to get together at an indoor play centre in London.  Perhaps have an afternoon of chatter and tea whilst the little ones expend some excess energy.  Anyone game?

I haven't been to a play centre in London yet, but there's at least three near me so there must be quite a few in London.  Suggestions?

Sounds fun. I don't know where there are any playcentres though.  I'll see what I can find out.

I am in Chelmsford, but would make the journey.  I have a 15 month old.

Liz, I have a few 'directory' sites bookmarked, but I've never been to any of them.  Was kind of hoping there might be a mum here with a recommendation.

Maddie, do you drive yet?  I live less than a half an hour from you and we have a local play barn.  I picked London because I thought it might be a central place for most of the mummies to meet.  We could always meet up locally in addition to the the meet-up in London.

oooh oooh there is one on that list about 20 mins walk  from where I live I googled it and found out a bit more:

The Playhouse Indoor adventure playground for children aged 6mths - 10yrs The Old Gym Highbury Grove School Highbury New Park N5 2EG TEl: 0207 704 9424

I can go check that out in the next couple of days if you like.  There is a nice park nearby too with swings and things.

Would that be near Highbury Tube stop?  I come in via Tottenham Hale (if Maddies comes in, I think she'd be coming via Tottenham Hale too), then usually change onto the Victoria or Piccadilly to get into Central London.

Yes, if you wouldn't mind checking that out, it would be great.  I'm particularly interested in whether they have segregated areas for little 'uns versus the over 3's or 4's, and how warm it is so I know how to dress Niall.

As a side note, our local play barn is really nice, just a bit on the chilly side.  So I'd normally dress Niall in two pair of socks (no shoes allowed indoors) and a Gap sweatshirt -- then he's good to go!

Yes it's about 10 mins walk from there.  I've made a note of your questions & I'll pop by and check it out.

I went and checked out the place in Highbury today ... at least I tried to... turns out it no longer exists. Sorry. Back to the drawing board.

Did you see anything else on that list that was close to you?

It looks like the other ones in my area are after school clubs or for older children.  Poopies!

Well, unless other London mummies chime in with suggestions, how would you feel about coming up here (Herts -- out of Liverpool St Station -- fast train you could be here in 30 mins, slow 40-50 mins)?  Maddie lives with in driving distance and I can pick you up from the station (which is right behind the our flat) and we can drive to the local play barn.  You'd have to bring Ethan's car seat tho.

That would be great if we could all get together with our children.  My 16 month old enjoys play areas.  Let me know!
