NRA Spouse-Do they have to file a tax return as well?
« on: February 20, 2020, 08:46:11 PM »
I moved to the UK in 2018. My husband(British) gave up his green card in 2018, and we filed taxes for 2018 as him being a US resident. Now in 2019, he has no legal status/green card. I wanted to file as married filing separately, but would that mean that he has to file a return as well?

And would it be better to put his social security number or Non-Resident Alien in the social security section?

It is not clear what was done for 2018. Since he abandoned his green card by filing Form I-407 did he file a dual status tax return for 2018?
