DVLA lost docs???
« on: April 20, 2020, 04:08:39 PM »
Hey guys,

I’m freaking out.

I sent my application to DVLA via post- as you’re probably aware, expats are required to include their BRP in the provisional application.... I did just that and paid a little extra to make the application “signed for” through Post.

Today, I received a £34 check in the mail because DVLA are unable to process my provisional application (due to covid) but I still haven’t received my BRP.

Feeling super anxious about this.

Should I be worried? Anyone else in the same boat?

No. They always send your BRP separate to reduce identity theft through stolen post.

They would have to send everything back to you separately. What did the letter say?

Did you do part of your application online? I think the £34 is the cost for online?

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I am stressing this quite a bit. I applied online for my provisional on the 21st of March. I then received the letter in the post asking for ID documents. I sent off my BRP and photo, and it is now the 26th of April and I have yet to receive anything back. I've tried chat support, email, and phone and none are working, due to virus issues. I have no clue how to get in touch with anyone about my missing BRP & license.

I think all you can do is wait for your documents to be returned, as the website says it may take longer than normal to process it.

This is what the gov.uk website says:

Thanks Ksand and surfrider... still nothing returned on my end.

I’m a key worker and DVLA has a contact page for key workers only- so I did reach out to them and here’s their response.
Pretty useless tbh and provided me with 0 reassurance.

Guess I’ll just keep waiting.

Just curious if you have received your docs back yet?

My BRP & provisional license have still not arrived. (Sent 21 March). We are now 2 months past that.

No way to contact DVLA to ask about it either, as they are only responding to critical care staff inquiries.

Dear all,

We are also in the same boat so to speak; and as my wife had key worker status, after a few months we phoned today (we mailed documents end of March by registered mail which was receipted for by DVLA, or at least signed by someone there).

My wife was told they had paused all applications for provisional licenses during covid and had only started to process them again this Monday in the order they had been received.

So hopefully in the next month my wife’s BRP will return!

I know this using much help but it might be of some comfort!

Yours Aye

That’s super helpful, thanks laserradial!

Mine was also signed for, as you mentioned, but radio silence after that (apart from receiving a cheque for £34.. so I guess my application wasn’t processed).

I’ll probably need to reapply on the basis I described above.

Hope it works out for everyone

Nothing whatsoever. DVLA still have no phone, chat, or email services offered for non-essential people like myself.

Application status page still says "Awaiting Documents" like it has since first week of March.

At this point, I'd just like my BRP back.

As a side note, my insurer (Admiral) has made an exception for my case to allow renewal and coverage for my Land Rover, despite still being on a US license. It took a few phone calls, but eventually they understood the situation with Covid and will continue to cover me. (Noted this in my file too) At least that is one glimmer of hope in this fiasco!

That stinks. I’m sure they’re on the way?

To be prudent I’m not going to reapply until Scotland loosens some of the restrictions a bit further. Don’t even think I can take lessons just yet either until that happens.

On a positive note, I just got my BRP and other supporting docs back! Yay! I’m sure you’ll get yours back, too.
