Foreign Earned Income FLR(M) Renewal
« on: June 19, 2020, 06:33:12 PM »
Hi all!

Been a while since my last post, but my partner visa (unmarried) is due to expire in March 2021 and I'm getting a little nervous about the financial requirements. My partner lost their job due to COVID-19 and my current employment is with a US organisation (I'm working remotely from the UK). If I am paid into my UK bank account, does that count has "having earned it in the UK"?

Any guidance would be appreciated! It's not guaranteed that my partner will have much employment from now until March since he's a performer so I'm trying just to rely on my own to be safe.

How are you paying your UK taxes and NI?

I"ll have to file self-employment taxes this year as I just started as a contractor last month.

Am I reading "Category F: Last full financial year" correctly in thinking that if we submitting my partner's self-employment income for April 5 2019 - April 6 2020, that it could satisfy the income requirement? My partnered earned enough in that year to meet the requirements, but wouldn't be able to show a continuation of that income after April 2020....is that needed?

Self employment is one of the most difficult categories, and requires a full year of accounts to qualify. If you've just started self employment, you won't have a full year of accounts by March 2021. You must show ongoing income as well. They are making some exceptions related to Covid-19, but currently they are only allowing for reductions in income up to July 31. One of the experts may have more feedback though.

Do you by chance have savings/investments (like a 401k in the US that is immediately available if needed) of £62,500?

Unfortunately I do not  :-\\\\

Thank you for your help - I am applying for different salaried employment in the UK so hopefully, I will land a job to meet the  "6 months prior to application" requirement!

I have no idea if it's an option, but as a contingency plan, do you have anyone you can ask to gift you the money to hold in a bank account for 6 months prior to the application being submitted?  Just as you have enough time right now for that to "work".

As Margo said, they have relaxed the requirements due to COVID, but no idea how long that will last.  Big hugs, we are alllll in the same boat right now (with the uncertain future state of the economy).
