Immigrants in Scotland (voting)

Immigrants in Scotland can now register to vote and will be able to vote in the next Scottish election. This is effective today,  3 August 2020.

You no longer need to be a British citizen or EU national.

And you are now eligible to hold a political post if you have ILR.

It applies to anyone on a visa possibly with exception to someone on a visa lasting under 6 months, I didn't investigate short term visas.

So, on a spouse visa, you are eligible to vote.

Seemed to take ages to go into effect! But super proud to be in Scotland.

Where did you register to vote? I checked on our local council website but it still says you have to be a citizen!

As with anything else, they are slow to change the information on their websites.  But you register here.
