Scanning Documents in color - ILR application
« on: August 17, 2020, 03:01:30 PM »
I am working on uploading my documents for my ILR application and cannot figure out how to change my settings to scan in black and white instead of color.

It states:

Quote
File Size: each uploaded document has a file size limit of 6MB. Uploading larger files will result in your documents being rejected, so please ensure the file is as small as possible and not more than 6 MB. If your document is over 6 MB please separate it into parts and create separate files to upload. There is no limit on the number of documents/files you can upload.

Scan in Greyscale or Black and white: To help contain the files size to 6MB please scan in ‘Greyscale’ or ‘Black and white’ and not in ‘Colour’. It is also helpful to keep the resolution between 150 dpi (dots per inch) to 300 dpi. This can be achieved by configuring your device by the available ‘Settings’ option, that allows you to choose the file format, colour and the dpi resolution. With this approach, you will be able to scan up to 50 pages per document within the allowed 6 MB limit.

My files are all well below 6MB. Does this mean that ALL files together need to be less than 6MB? Also, if the files are in color and small enough will the application be rejected? I can't figure out how to change it and I have scanned everything already before reading the specifics.

Thanks!

What is the make and model number of the scanner that you are using? Look up the user guide for it and I'm sure there will be a setting somewhere that will allow you to scan in black & white. Do not scan in colour.

EACH file size needs to 6MB or less, if it's over then I expect when it comes to uploading it will be rejected. Also, use sensible filenames for example bank-statement-aug-2020

Do not use spaces or weird characters in the filename. I hope that helps.

The file sizes and names are the most important thing. The black and white suggestion is them trying to be helpful for reducing the file size - the fact it is colour won't be an issue. :)

If you use colour and the scanned document is more than 6MB you will then need to look at running the image through a tool to reduce the file size. With the number of documents to be scanned, it's best to get the settings on to black & white so you can scan without worrying about the file size. One less thing to worry about.

Oh, I agree - anything to get it under :) it's worth trying all settings available, but if you have colour scans that are sub-6MB, then it's not a great concern.

Hi, I am also busy scanning documents in and have been doing so in colour, so far each file is less than 6mb so I hope like you, it will be fine.

What scanner are you using and if scanning to a pc/laptop have you downloaded the corresponding software? For instance I have a HP scanner and there is no option on the scanner for black and white scans, but with the HP smart software that I downloaded on my PC there is the option there for black and white, different compression levels etc so there might be something similar for your scanner make? Hope this helps a little.

Hi all. Thanks for your replies. Most of my scans were under 6MB, but I had a few that were over, so I used a family member's scanner. Ours actually died right after I completed my scans. It was a Cannon, which apparently isn't very good! We are ordering an HP next.

One other question about uploading documents - under what category do I upload all of the mail addressed to both of us to prove cohabitation? I feel like the tabs aren't very clear and there is no description.

This is what I have done...

Proof of Application - US Passport, Spouse Declaration

Other - Children’s Birth certificates + proof of residence (so proof that they reside with us)

Residence in the UK - Mortgage, 2020 Council Bill

Finances - Husband’s pay slips + bank statements showing those payments being deposited into his account, Letter from HR confirming that this is legitimate.

Proof of Business - ?

Life Events - Marriage Certificate

Medical Information - ?

Sponsors / Employment - Husband’s Birth Certificate + UK Passport, Letter from HR confirming employment dates, Signed employment contract

Proof of Identity / Travel History - My US passport, BRP, Visa from entrance into UK, my birth certificate

Educational - ?

Thank you so much! I almost forgot the land registry. Thank goodness I posted this. :)

Is the consent to check forms the document check list?

No, it's part of the declaration section of the online application.

The following need to be signed:
- Applicant's declaration... applicant signs
- Sponsor's declaration... sponsor signs
- Consent to Verification Checks if the bills/bank statements provided are in joint names... sponsor signs if any of your documents are in joint names
- No one signs the Third Party Financial Support Consent to Checks form as you are not allow third party support

Hi Ksands,

Do you have need to supply land registry still?

What’s weird is the document checklist they gave us when we recently applied didn’t mention anything about land registry.

Yes, Land Registry is an absolute requirement because it's the only document that actually proves you own the house.

The document checklist is often incomplete and vague... because the online application form is badly designed, and so it is not to be completely trusted.

We have had people be contacted by UKVI after applying, asking for additional documents to be sent that were not on the document checklist but were a requirement for the visa.

Where do I get the applicant declaration? I don't have that in any of my forms. I have the partner declaration. Is that something I signed electronically when I submitted my application? I am a little nervous now.

I can’t see the form so I don’t know exactly how it is set up these days. I assume it was signed electronically then if you don’t have it separately.

Nothing to worry about as you can’t submit the application without signing it.

Just whatever declarations you have, include them.... so that would be the sponsor declaration and the consent to verification checks.

I was wondering about the declaration forms myself as even after you submit the application pages does not mention anything other then the sponsor declaration form. It doesn't mention anything else on the checklist or the UKVCAS website as needing to upload additional declaration forms.  It also does not mention any verification forms.

Obviously we know they dont always tell you everything that you need to upload such as marriage certificate.

I have done a google search and found this:

https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/documents/family_consent.pdf

Are these the right forms?
