1st year filing taxes
« on: January 13, 2021, 04:03:46 PM »
Can someone point me in the right direction. This is my 1st year doing my taxes, since I moved. I normally do my taxes on TurboTax. Can I still use this to complete my taxes? Also do I use my YTD figures on my December payslip as my earnings?I also have 2 children to claim for.

Any help will be appreciated.

My son and I each use TurboTax to file our US taxes from the UK. I buy and download TT and we each use it to file. I file MFJ with my wife, we are both USCs. My son is single and lives close by.

I keep a spreadsheet which I use to record the gross amounts of my UK pensions, interest etc and use the totals January through December. The annual P60s are of little use as they are based on the UK tax year.

I’ve no idea about claiming children, hopefully someone will be along with some info on that.

I normally use turbo tax and it has all my pre-filled data. But its asking for a W-2 which i dont have. So which option do I now use?

You create a substitute W2 (form4852 I think)

I am retired and have to create substitute 1099-Rs which also uses that form.

You report as income the total of the 12 monthly payslips plus any employer pension contributions.  Foreign tax credit is claimed on Form 1116. You are most likely due a child tax credit refund of $2,800.

I have done a spreadsheet and broken put the gross salary, taxes, NI and pension.

So should the gross income and ER pension be added and placed under salary and should I then choose taken as  tax credit and minus the taxes.

Some people report employer pension contributions on the wages line. Others report it on the other income line and yet others exempt these under the treaty.
