Fiancé visa processing time
« on: August 08, 2021, 10:34:03 PM »
Hello! 😊

So, my fiancée and I applied for the fiancé visa last month. We ended up only being able to have my biometrics at the end of the month and it’s not been 2 weeks yet but we’re worried. Our wedding is booked for 2 months from now, I still have to give notice in the UK which means I have to be there 37 days before and we’re praying the Visa comes back this month because of that. Does having priority really make a difference? Is there anything we can do to make this smoother? I realise it would have been better to apply earlier but things happened that were out of our control, unfortunately now all we can do is try to work with what we’re dealing with now. Thanks.

Priority does make a difference - it usually reduces the waiting time by about half... without priority you could be looking at 3-6 months for processing, whereas priority is usually 6 weeks (but can take a couple of months if they are busy). The processing time doesn’t usually begin until your biometrics date, as they cannot start processing the visa until after you have attended biometrics.

In terms of what you can do, unfortunately, all you can really do is be patient and wait for the visa, and also perhaps look into what you might need to do in order to move your wedding to a later date, in case you don’t get the visa in time.

Thanks. Am I correct in counting the days by weekdays only? I wish we could have sent it in sooner but there were things out of our control. More often than not, do they do it within the priority time or do they often go over it?

Yeah, it’s calculated in working days (so you also need to take into account U.K. public holidays).

The standards processing time is 95% of applications (both priority and non-priority) processed in 12 weeks (60 working days), and 100% in 24 weeks (120 working days).

Using priority service should hopefully get it processed in 30 working days from biometrics, but processing times have been all over the place due to Covid, so it’s hard to know how long it will take. I don’t think we’ve had many people applying from the US recently so I’m not sure what the recent times have been.

Thanks. I appreciate it. Fingers crossed it all works out soon, there’s a lot riding on it like I’m sure it is for many. So much anxiety.

Is it 30 days from the date of biometrics or from when I got an email saying the application has been forwarded? TIA
