Student to Spouse FLR - Document Checklist
« on: August 13, 2021, 09:02:18 AM »
Hi All,

I've previously posted here to answer questions about my now-wife’s visa journey.

For completeness, here are the links to the previous threads, which should provide sufficient background: here and here.

We were finally married in April and, after a trip to the US and a passport name change, we are ready to switch from a Tier 4 visa to the 5-year journey of FLR(M).  We just want to check our documentation is in order before we submit.

Preliminaries
Consent Checks - Part 1 (Her)
Consent Checks - Part 2 (Me)
Consent Checks - Part 2 (Flatmate)
US passport in old name (all pages, her)
US passport in new name (all pages, her)
BRP (both sides, her)
UK passport (all pages, me)
UK passport (photo page, flatmate)

Housing
Tenancy Agreement (me, her, and flatmate all named, electronic)
Council Tax Bill (me, her, and flatmate all named)

There is a section that says “If you and your partner lived with relatives of friends for some or all of the 2-year period, please provide a letter from the relative(s) and/or friend(s) confirming this.” - Is this necessary for us? We have been living with a friend, but we are all named on the tenancy agreement that we are submitting.

At some other point, it asks how much rent she pays is.  Should we input the total amount for the three of us, as outlined on the tenancy agreement? Or should it be her fractional share?  Likewise, when it asks for shared costs, do we put our total shares of utility bills etc.

Financial
PhD Stipend letter (stating annual amount, tax-free status, start and end dates of funding)
Bank Statement (for July 2021. showing deposit of 1/12th of annual amount)

Bank Statements for my account (dated 1 Feb - 9 Aug; requested in-branch and posted)
Bank Statements for her account (dated 1 Feb - 9 Aug; requested in-branch and posted)
Letter stating the source of funds for each of us
(Do these need to be stamped? How does the Home Office know the difference between online banking statements and those sent through the post?)

Just want to check some sums:
My stipend is £15,285pa, and paid on a tax-free basis.  This reduces the required threshold to £15,800, which we are supplementing with savings.  The deficit is £515, which means we need at least £17,287.50 for the past six months.  Is this correct?

The lowest amount in my account is ~£12,600 and the lowest in hers is ~£7200, which totals ~£19800.  Is this sufficient, or is a bigger buffer advisable?

Cohabitation
She moved here at the end of August 2020, and we started living together on 30th September 2020. Given the slightly awkward length of time that we are providing correspondence for, I have included the dates of all the mail we have in the table below. I have highlighted in red the documents I was thinking of providing, and they cover at least three sources (water bill, energy bill, and council tax).

*The 3rd Nov. and 28th Jan. documents are both missing the third (of three) page. They’re both Thames Water bills and the third page in both are fairly meaningless (e.g. telling me other ways to pay). Will this need explanation? I can include a pdf of the third page in a cover letter for completeness?

**The 23rd Dec. letter for her is a Parcelforce letter - is this ok? May not need to use it but worth checking.

*** This one hasn’t arrived yet, but I am anticipating it today/tomorrow.

If we have to provide a letter stating why they are not even/why one is missing, is it as simple as a few sentences? For example, ‘We are unable to provide a document from October as we had not switched to paperless billing by that time’.

Other Stuff
UK marriage certificate

I think this is everything - but I’m sure there will be a follow-up question or two!

I’m just going to rearrange your document list into the correct upload sections for the UKVCAS website:

Application Documents
US passport in old name (all pages, her)
US passport in new name (all pages, her)
Consent Checks - Part 1 (Her)
Consent Checks - Part 2 (Me)
Consent Checks - Part 2 (Flatmate)
er)
Sponsor’s Declaration signed by you (part of online application

Proof of Identity/Travel History
BRP (both sides, her)
UK passport (all pages, me)

Residence in the U.K.
Accommodation Documents
Tenancy Agreement (me, her, and flatmate all named, electronic)
Council Tax Bill (me, her, and flatmate all named)
Cohabitation Documents
One document in each name from each of the following months:
Sept 2020
Nov 2020
Jan 2021
Mar 2021
May 2021
July 2021

Finances
PhD Stipend letter (stating annual amount, tax-free status, start and end dates of funding)
Bank Statement (for July 2021. showing deposit of 1/12th of annual amount)
Bank Statements for my account (dated 1 Feb - 9 Aug; requested in-branch and posted)
Bank Statements for her account (dated 1 Feb - 9 Aug; requested in-branch and posted)
Letter stating the source of funds for each of us

Other
UK marriage certificate
UK passport (photo page, flatmate)

And for the questions you asked:

Quote
There is a section that says “If you and your partner lived with relatives of friends for some or all of the 2-year period, please provide a letter from the relative(s) and/or friend(s) confirming this.” - Is this necessary for us? We have been living with a friend, but we are all named on the tenancy agreement that we are submitting.

No, this is not relevant to you as you rent the place you live in and are official tenants.

Quote
At some other point, it asks how much rent she pays is.  Should we input the total amount for the three of us, as outlined on the tenancy agreement? Or should it be her fractional share?  Likewise, when it asks for shared costs, do we put our total shares of utility bills etc.

I would put the total amount she pays (her share) and for the shared costs I’d put the total amount you and your wife contribute towards the living costs.

Quote
(Do these need to be stamped? How does the Home Office know the difference between online banking statements and those sent through the post?)

If they have all been received in the post they  do not need to be stamped.

Yes, that’s correct.

That’s fine

I’m answering this on my phone and the table doesn’t translate when I quote it, so I actually can’t tell what it is showing as all I see is a list of random numbers that look like this:

Jul
22, 24, 26, 28
14, 19, 23
5, 15

Which mean nothing to me

It would be much easier you can list he documents you have from each of the following months, and also include what documents they are:
Sept 2020
Nov 2020
Jan 2021
Mar 2021
May 2021
July 2021

For example:
Jan 2021
Me: bank statement dated 15th Jan
Her: NHS letter dated 20th Jan

March 2021
Joint: council tax bill dated 31st Mar

July 2021
Joint: water bill dated 10th July

Quote

Yes, that’s all you need to put, but as you only need 1 document dated every 2 months, you don’t need anything from October anyway.

Thanks a lot for the speedy reply, and sorry for the correspondence mess. My attempt to create a table clearly didn't work well.

We have the following correspondence for the specified dates:

Nov 2020
Water Bill (joint - 3rd)

Jan 2021
TV Licensing Letter (me - 15th)
Water Bill (joint - 28th)

Mar 2021
Credit Card Statement (me - 24th)
Mobile Phone Letter (her - 11th)
Bank Statement (her - 19th)
Council Tax (joint - 5th)
Energy bill (joint - 22nd)

May 2021
Two hospital letters (me - 10th and 27th)
Amex letter (me - 6th)
Credit card statement (me - 24th)
Bank statement (her - 19th)
Water bill (joint - 10th)
Energy bill (joint - 16th)

July 2021
Bank statement (me - 22nd)
Credit card statement (me - 24th)
Hospital letter (me - 26th)
DBS letter (me - 28th)
Pension letter (her - 15th)
Bank statement (her - 19th)
Council tax (joint - 5th)
Energy bill (joint - 15th)
Water bill (joint - 29th)

"Sponsor’s Declaration signed by you (part of online application)" - what is this? We pre-filled in the form, and we don't remember seeing this section yet. Is it something we print out and I sign?  Do you know where in the process this is?

Thanks for posting those.

I would use the following documents:

Sept 2020
Water Bill (joint - 30th) (Source 1)

Nov 2020
Water Bill (joint - 3rd)

Jan 2021
Water Bill (joint - 28th)

Council Tax (joint - 5th) (Source 2)

May 2021
Energy bill (joint - 16th) (Source 3)

July 2021
Energy bill (joint - 15th)

You can also add something from August 2021 if you have anything by the time you apply, but it’s not necessary.

Yeah, there should be a declaration somewhere near the end of the application (near the Consent to Checks forms) that you sign to say that you support the application and that all the information you have provided is correct.

You print it, sign it, and scan it in along with the consent to checks forms.

Great, thanks a lot.

Should I write a letter explaining the unevenness of correspondence gaps? I know they are every two months, but the exact gaps range from just over one month to just under three months..

No, you have documents dated during each of the months you need them for, so there’s nothing to explain.
