US B1/B2 VISITOR VISA
« on: November 09, 2021, 07:49:14 PM »
Hi guys,
Wondering if people are in the same boat as me. US changed its travel restrictions yesterday so my wife applied for visitor visa with US. However, upon paying the next available date is in September 2022. We booked flights and hotel for feb 2022 thinking the interview date wont be that far but its almost a year away. Anyone in the same position?. Applied to US embassy in London

My 10-year B2 visitor visa expired in September 2021, so I need to apply for a new one.

However, I know there is a massive backlog at the US Embassy at the moment, because they have only just reinstated visa application services after more than 1.5 years, so there will be almost 2 years' worth of visa applicants all trying to book appointments at the same time right now.

I'm glad you posted the information about the next appointment availability though, because I had been hoping I might be able to get an interview before the end of Feb 2022 (as I'll be working overseas from March to June 2022 and may have had the chance to travel back home via Florida), so knowing the next available is not until September 2022 helps me to plan when I might be able to get a new visa, and therefore when I might be able to travel to the US again.

In regards to your wife's application, is it possible for her to see availability for appointments at the US Embassy in Belfast instead? Or is the application tied to the London embassy?

I would imagine though that it's going to be very unlikely she will be able to get an appointment before February.

Under normal circumstances, they advise applying 4 months before travel, but because of Covid, I read the other day that they have extended that advised time to something like 10 months before travel.

Ah thanks for the quick reply. Yes it seems going to be a long wait. I m just hoping some people might drop out and appointment becomes available. Our problem now is that we have put some information of place to stay and travel plans on the application which now cannot be changed.

fingers crossed.

Have you had any luck with getting an earlier appointment?

I went ahead and applied for my new B2 visa a couple of weeks ago, and had to book an interview for 23rd September 2021... however, I had an email from them yesterday saying they were releasing some earlier appointments at 9am this morning, and luckily I was able to reschedule it for 11th February instead :).

I'm going overseas for 4 months on 4th March, so fingers crossed I get my passport back in time.

Somewhat to be honest. i got the same e-mail but when i opened the appointment dates everything was taken or i wasn't sure if they had released the dates. I've just managed to scoop April but would've loved the date you got. i'm jeoulous  ;)

Glad you got April, even if it's not ideal, it's better than September... and you may find they release more early ones again in the next few weeks.

I logged on just before 9 am and just kept refreshing in the hope of getting something. It would show different dates in Feb and March each time I refreshed, but either they were unsuitable for me (not enough time to get the visa before I fly overseas), or the appointments had gone before I had a chance to book one. I almost gave up, but about 9:10 am, I finally managed to get one for 11th Feb.
