Carers' Allowance
« on: January 12, 2022, 05:22:29 PM »
It'll be the first year that I file in receipt of Carers' Allowance. I'm thinking that the place to report the income would be line 8z of Schedule 1, writing in something like 'U.K Government Carers' Allowance'.

Anyone have other thoughts?

Thanks

I would have though that Attendance Allowance is akin to Disability Allowance in the US.

Here's the IRS view:

You report the taxable portion of your social security benefits on line 6b of Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR.

That should have read as Carers' Allowance -)

My mistake - apologies for that.

Carers allowance is taxable income in the UK and as it is based on the number of hours caring for someone, I would have thought it could be considered 'earned income' like wages and salaries. Depending on your circumstances you may end up paying tax on it through self assessment (tax is not deducted through DWP and the payment - you will receive it gross) - if so, you will be able to take an FTC on Form 1116.
