I'm from Scotland and married an American man.  He's not interested in posting on forums etc though.

Ditto...also a scot married to a an american, based in Edinburgh.

Hubby loves the info we can pick up from this website but has no clue how to turn a computer on let alone interact on a website!

My biggest challenge is trying to keep him away from football - soccer! i'm determined not to become a football widow like all my other married friends!

well, we're not in the Uk yet, but I am a British wife married to a USA spouse, and we're headed to manchester in two months (yelp!) I think there is definitely a tendency for women to use community-based forums than the manly types (we're clever like that;-))  (and for all you guys out there, I consider you among the enlightened ;D

Hands up here too. I'm English, but moved to Scotland when I was 10 so that's where we live now. I spent 7 years in the States and now I miss it more than my all-American hubby!  ;D

I am an American guy living in Chester in the UK with my British wife that i met over here while i was in the USAF. We met in 2003 and got married in 2005, and i have just applied for my ILR so hopefully all goes well and i get it. The things i miss most  about the US,. are the weather and gas prices lol, travelling over here by car is so expensive.

When I married my wife she was living in the UK and had aquired her citizenship.  Upon marriage she moved with me to the US for five years.  Now, I have taken a job transfer to the UK...so she is back...go figure.  I've started dealing with the changed by writing more about it at www.travelnwork.info to share helpful lessons and stories...not too personal, but meant to be insightful.  I find there is a good bit of information available on the facts about transitioning, but not much that goes into the nuances...the unfamiliarity.  I have started using this forum and appreciate it.... Thanks for asking.

Just because I'm a woman does not mean I know ALL the answers  ;)

I hope you didn't actually tell him that. You can get kicked out of the womanhood guild for revealing its secrets. ;D
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Another Scot married to an American husband, who for 10 years in England drove me mad with American football non=stop, and lacrosse in the park! Then we moved here and he is determined to get back to UK asap. He spends all his time watching soccer, and gets mad at the kids if they say gas instead of petrol...oh well. at least we tried it. 10 years was just too long, he's gotten (as they say in this part of the world) too anglicized to adjust back. He did hate bits of living in the UK when we were there. We found having other American friends helped, even if they'd been in the UK for years more. And we'l get the kids a basketball hoop now they're hooked on it. But he misses the civility of England. (hope it's stil there). the orderliness, the politeness, and the school system. that's really what's driving us back. The kids here are treated like idiots unless you want to pay for private academic schools. And we're sick of having syrup/sugar in everything. bring back cheap veggies!
If I think of our friends back in the UK there are a number of US hubbys. you're not alone, and he'll get over it!

My husband works with someone who (is male) that left America to come to England after him and his wife lived in the USA for a few years.

I think I've been sending my husband to work to ask him all these questions lol.

We live near Mansfield.

*Yank or Yankee is one of the lesser derogatory slang terms for any American, whether from New England or not.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankee
*The Oxford English Dictionary states that one of the earliest theories on the word derivation is from the Cherokee word "eankke" for coward as applied to the residents of New England.

You don't hear me calling you a bloody brit, so don't call me a yank!

I have a friend of mine from work that's from Wyoming.  He originally moved over to be with his British wife.  They've now since divorced, but he's decided to stay here for various reasons.  He's in Sheffield as well.  It was suprising how many Americans I actually worked with that moved to the UK for various reasons.
