My mom is trying to find a jeweler near her to make the ring.  She has the original ring with her in Texas.  I am looking at styles and talking to DF to see what would be the best thing.  Now, just that little issue with telling his family...

Congratulations! That's a wonderful story. My fiance proposed to me without a ring as well due to money issues - I have a beautiful one now though - it was worth the wait!

Good luck with all the planning and smart thinking about a simple wedding. That's what we are doing in April - not only cost effective, but a lot more personal intimate.
