That's right! Me! Getting married! Here is how it came about....
We are both short on cash as he is working on getting his career going and I am saving money like mad. I didn't know this, really, but he was stressed about getting a ring for me because he just couldn't afford it. What he didn't know, is I didn't want an engagement ring (I am so hard on anything that is jewel like and sticks up on my hand). I didn't care, I just wanted to be with him and become his wife. But, obviously, he had other ideas.
Sorry, babbling! Too excited!
My grandfather, who was married to my grandmother for 63 years before she passed (they were the sweet old couple deeply in love), offered my grandmother's wedding ring to me. The catch is that she never wanted anyone to wear the ring as it was hers and hers alone. However, he told me to take it to a jeweler and have them take it apart and using the pieces, redesign a ring for my marriage. He figured that I wouldn't actually be wearing
her ring but rather have a piece of her and her love in a ring that would be completely my own. Honestly, it made me cry.
I told my love about it and he brightened up and said, "That's wonderful! It is so perfect for you! The ring I picked out just wouldn't be the same." He was shocked when I told him that I didn't want an engagement ring and then thanked me, jokingly, for causing him so much stress trying to find and afford the perfect ring! He started offering suggestions for the ring and said that he would think about it and get back to me with his own ideas (he already had some really sweet ones). I said, "So, does that mean that we are officially getting married now?" His answer was so sweet, "I am already married to you in my heart and mind, but, OF COURSE we are getting married! I love you! Marry me?" I screamed YES!
This ring will actually be my wedding ring (we are skipping the engagement ring because I know that I wouldn't wear it once we are married--I like simplicity--and our money is better spent moving me to the UK and establishing ourselves as a couple..oh, and because of what I mentioned above too). So, I guess this means that everything is even MORE official.
I knew it was coming but some hard and frustrating setbacks and lack of money was causing us to not officially move forward. Thanks, Grandpa and Grandma!
OMG, I am getting married, officially, now! YAY!!! I know, I am long-winded, but bouncy with excitement.
