The fiance visa is a settlement visa, it's increasing from £515 to £585.

Something to keep in mind is that fees are charged in the applicant's local currency, and the exchange rate is not kept very up-to-date.  So my £515 spousal visa ended up costing around £600, charged in dollars to my husband's credit card.  I don't know how the dollar fees will be adjusted once the pound fees increase, but it's something to keep in mind.

You pay the fee when you do the application online. So if you do it in March you pay the fee at that time £515. If you complete your application online April 1st you pay £585.

OMG, I could sell my in-utero baby to become a citizen...holy money!

When I got my ILR in (I think) 2000, I think it cost £175!!! And all I had to do was fill out a piece of paper and sing a little ditty! At least it felt like that at the time!

Are you sure? I suspect you exaggerate! In the UK there were hardly any visa fees at all until 31.08.03! When my own wife applied for ILR in April 2002 the cost was ..... absolutely nothing! And that was for a in-person application at a PEO. Same-day service ... visa granted ... no charge!

Maybe they "fined" you £175 for singing ???

Yeah, and once upon a time back in prehistoric times all you needed to do was wave your marriage certificate at the British Consulate and they gave you a letter to show immigration who stamped your passport "given leave to enter for an indefinite period" --- AND not a single piece of gold passed hands!!  Imagine that!

I was 100% positive that I had to pay, but looking at the paperwork there is no indication of how much money to send, it might be that back in the day it cost £195 to get a UK Passport...that might be what I am thining of....

Yes, we walked into the UK Consultate in NYC with our marriage certificate and they let me in, I think this cost about $400 . And I travelled back and forth to the UK for almost 3 years with no money, a return ticket and no ties to anything back in the US, nor did they ask for any of that! I just said, I am visiting my boyfriend for 4 months, they said, Okay, enjoy your stay!!!

Okay, just found the paperwork, got ILR on the 25th Sept 2000, I filled out a SET(M) and sent in with it, a mortgage payment notice, a payslip, a joint bank statement, my own bank statements, and a utility bill!!! Nothing else.....ah those were the good old days!!!

That sounds right. There would have been a fee for applying for Naturalisation, and then a fee for obtaining the British passport.

Back in Prehistory there was no Naturalization option in that the US did not allow -- or at least heartily discouraged -- dual nationality.
