I am a thread count SNOB, DH thinks I am funny.  Sheets/Towels are a must to be a good brand/count.

Me too. I think that really decent quality linens are one of those places where saving money does you no favours. Get the expensive ones and treat them right and they'll last forever and always feel good.

Whole new world for a Southern gardener, but I'm very happy.

QVC has quite a few flannel bedding items.
Thank you for this! I bought the northern lights set and it was inexpensive and they are sooooooooooooooo soft!

Yay, you found some!   :)  My flannel sheets sure came in handy when we were without power for 12 hours a few nights ago!

On the topic of sheets--(Sorry OP!) I've had an interesting time trying to find a flat sheet....Looking in whatever store I happen to be in at the time, I can never find any--as if they don't exist? Or they're always sold out??

I have a bed from Ikea (140x200cm), and in the US, I had a Full, which took Full/Queen sized sheets.  Can I just stick those lovely threadcount sheets (snob here, too! :P) on the UK Ikea bed??  I've looked around on sites like this, and it seems my IKEA bed is in between the sizes of a US Full and a US Queen, so the Full/Queen sheets should work just fine.

But has anybody tried it? I just dont want to waste too much space in my suitcase on my way back to the UK. Thanks if anyone can offer their experience :D

Do you want just the one sheet, Sakura? You may have trouble finding that anywhere as they seem to be selling them as complete sets now. I think we saw individual sheets on sale in John Lewis (the London one) a year or so ago though.
Come to that, it's getting harder and harder to find sheets for a double/full bed. Does everybody now have a Queen or King?

I can't help with the IKEA question since I've never had an IKEA bed, but you can find flat sheets (sold individually) pretty easily in the UK.  I can usually find them at places like TK Maxx or Dunelm Mill.  I do a lot of quilting and have discovered that using flat sheets for backing, etc is much easier than getting hold of decent fabric by the meter here.   :)

I'll take 'em all! So long as a set will include both fitted and flat!  Reading the labels, i recall them saying the kits only included fitted and 2 pillow cases...but I'll try Johhn Lewis and TK Maxx.  It's just good to know that they do in fact exist. :)

Thanks!

I'm from Wales and we call it a flannel too.

When I first came to the USA and heard the term "washcloth", I couldn't fathom what it was and though it it must be akin to a UK floorcloth - something you use to wipe messes of the floor.

Much prefer the term "flannel".

Oh, in Scotland it's also called a flannel there as well.

I even have a flannel quilt cover. Think I got it in Target a few years back. It's got penguins dancing around all over it but I don't mind  ;)

A "cloth" for "washing" made of cotton terry cloth, not of flannel.   :)
Come to think of it, my Yorkshire husband nevers calls it a flannel, he calls it a facecloth.  Another one of those "you say to-may-to and I say to-mah-to" things I guess.

Now that I think of it, my mother called them "face cloths". We had bath towels, hand towels and face cloths. I never found the equivalent of hand towels in the UK -- there seems to be a size somewhere in between in many cases (?)

Remember the Squeeze song from the 80's. Tempted?
"I bought a toothbrush, some toothpaste, a flannel for my face.  Pajamas, a hairbrush, new shoes and a case...."
That was the first time I heard a washcloth called a flannel.  I didn't know quite what it was for a long time.

I even have a flannel quilt cover.

Yeah, I've got a flannel duvet cover too.  I bought it at McKays here in England a few years ago as I mentioned before (although it seems to be going by the name M&Co now).  :)
