Updated 7th July 2022 - Reference Doc addressing 5 areas:

1. The current ILR Application Procedure for a spouse.
2. Up-to-date processing timelines.
3. Priority slot availability.
4. Application Documents required.
5. Subsequent Passport/Citizenship Application.

Any help or info to improve this doc is appreciated.

ILR APPLICATION PROCEDURE - 5 Year Route.
1) You can apply 28 days before the 5th anniversary of the date you landed.
2) Use the SET(M) form to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK as a partner of a person or parent of a child already settled in the UK.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-to-settle-in-the-uk-form-setm/apply-online-form-setm
3) Fill out the application form  (includes Life in the UK reference code - which looks something like this PSJ/201120/SW200JF03/C6OO212) ...
4) Submit the Application and pay the application fees - £2400
5) If Super Priority (£800) is available and you choose it you will not be offered use of the app. You will instead receive an email with a registration code for the UKVCAS website, then you:
- Book Biometric Appointment on the UKVCAS website immediately.
- Upload documents to the UKVCAS website before the Biometrics appointment.
- Attend Biometrics Appointment.
- Receive Visa Approval email if criteria is met - currently within 4-5 hours of the appointment.
6) If you do not choose Super Priority one of two things will happen.
a) You receive the app invite where you can upload documents and Biometrics.
b) You don't receive the app invite so you will:
- Book Biometrics Appointment on the UKVCAS website.
- Upload documents to the UKVCAS website before the Biometrics appointment.
- Attend Biometrics Appointment.
- Wait for visa approval email.
- Then wait.  Try not to fret.  Remember this is a visa guaranteed to be approved if you meet the criteria, which you do...

PROCESSING TIMELINES
Time from completing ILR application to being granted access to the app (app is optional and not always available):  4-10 days.
Time from completing ILR application to booking a Biometric Appointment (non-Priority): Range 15-30 days.
Time from attending Biometrics Appointment to receiving ILR decision:
- Super Priority gives the decision shortly after Biometrics.  Currently running at 4-5 hours after Biometrics.

2)   There are links to the Referee Forms.
3)   Submit Form + Pay Fee
4)   Mandatory Actions – includes Referee Forms (again) + Family Consent.

Citizenship is a completely different type of application and is in no way comparable to a spousal visa, FLR or ILR.
It is not a visa and it has almost no requirements. It is the easiest application you will fill in.

For citizenship (if married to a UK citizen), the only requirements are:
- Hold ILR
- Married to a UK citizen
- 3-year residency requirement (in UK 3 years prior to application date and no more than 270 days outside the UK in last 3 years)
- Good character requirement (no unspent convictions and you have been paying your taxes)
- 2 referees to confirm your identity

None of the spousal visa requirements apply to citizenship. There is:
- No accommodation requirement
- No financial requirement
- No relationship requirement (other than your marriage certificate)

Unless you are self-employed, pretty much the only documents you should need for citizenship are:
- Applicant’s passport
- UK spouse’s passport
- ILR BRP card
- Marriage certificate
- Life in the UK test reference number
- 2 referee forms

Citizenship Timelines.
Time from completing Citizenship Application to Biometrics - approx 21 Days according to one recent Applicant.
Average Citizenship Application processing times are usually 3-6 months from biometrics.
There is no Priority Service available for Citizenship Applications because it is not a visa.

• Mandatory documents are present in all required categories

CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION/PASSPORT - (DIFFERENT FROM ILR)
1) Before you can apply for a passport you need to become a UK citizen by applying for citizenship and then attending a UK citizenship ceremony.
2) If you are married to a UK citizen, you can apply for citizenship as soon as you have ILR as long as you meet the 3-year residency requirements.
3) It costs about £1300 for citizenship and can take up to 6 months for processing. You then have 3 months to attend to citizenship ceremony after that.
4) Once you have UK citizenship, you can apply for a UK passport, which is about £80 and takes up to a few weeks for processing.

CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION
This is a starting point – any help to improve the quality of the info is much appreciated.
1)   Fill out the Application Form.
2)   There are links to the Referee Forms.
3)   Submit Form + Pay Fee
4)   Mandatory Actions – includes Referee Forms (again) + Family Consent.
5)   Sopra Steria. You love it. Register and book Biometric Appointment – availability approx 21days as of April 2022.
6)   Upload Docs before Biometric Appointment (must complete at least 48hours before) or take the docs to the Appointment if you have booked/paid to have them scanned.

Re: ILR Application Procedure + Timelines - Reference Doc
« Reply #49 on: August 08, 2022, 10:14:37 PM »
Updated 8th August 2022 - Reference Doc addressing 5 areas:

1. The current ILR Application Procedure for a spouse.
2. Processing timelines.
3. Priority slot availability.
4. Application Documents required.
5. Subsequent Passport/Citizenship Application.

Any help or info to improve this doc is appreciated.

ILR APPLICATION PROCEDURE - 5 Year Route.
1) You can apply 28 days before the 5th anniversary of the date you landed.
2) Use the SET(M) form to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK as a partner of a person or parent of a child already settled in the UK.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-to-settle-in-the-uk-form-setm/apply-online-form-setm
3) Fill out the application form  (includes Life in the UK reference code - which looks something like this PSJ/201120/SW200JF03/C6OO212) ...
4) Submit the Application and pay the application fees - £2400
5) If Super Priority (+£800) is available (see PRIORITY SLOT AVAILABILITY below for availability times) and you choose it you will not be offered use of the app.

- Normal Non-Priority Applications - if you use the app, or attend an appointment instead of using the app, it can take 6 months from submitting the biometrics. (July 2022) Normal Non-Priority Applications taking 4.5 months.

PRIORITY SLOT AVAILABILITY
• A certain number of priority slots are released each day.  I think the person who set this up used a very simple routine which releases the appointments each day but did not account for Daylight Savings.  So the appointments become available at 1am.  If I am right this will be Midnight in Winter.
• We think it's 50 each day.   If you stay up until 1am you should get one.
• Once that is booked and paid for you make your Biometrics appointment at one of the UKVCAS centres.  These slots are available up to 28 days in advance.  Each day at 9am the newly available slots (i.e. the ones in 28 days time) are added.

Hi Tazzy, the BRP came 3 days after the approval email.

Here's what the approval email says:

"Your application for indefinite leave to remain in the UK has been successful. You will receive your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) by courier within 7 working days. It is your BRP, not this letter, that is the official document that grants you status."

Good news for us.  My wife had her ILR application approved yesterday (used super priority).  The decision came through within 24h of "submission".  Many thanks to mbmoffat and all other contributors for easing our passage through this process.

One minor comment regarding the checklist.  When my wife was at Sopra Steria  she was told that we were missing one document - the signed consent form saying that we were allowing them to look into our circumstances etc.   She was able to sign part 1 of the form right there in the office and if I had been sitting in the lobby I would have been allowed to come up and sign part 2 (despite all the warnings to not bring anybody to the appointment.  Maybe things are more relaxed in Edinburgh.  They scanned her signed page in for her (free of charge).  They told her that we had until 10pm to upload my portion of the signed document before the application was "submitted" for a decision. I had to sign the document , scan it and upload it to her application .  Because we had already submitted the original application form I could see that it was uploaded but there was no ability to send it on.  Presumably it was sent on at 10pm.  I don't know how we missed not filling this form in - I do remember using this form for the FLR extension - it wasn't mentioned on any of the checklists provided by UKVI.   Anyway we are all good to move onto citizenship now.

Hello all, just small update and info from my ILR appointment yesterday.

Went in for 9am appointment with document scanning. I wasn’t asked for any consent form discussed above BUT I was asked for my old passport. I had never used the passport for any U.K. visa(it expired in 2016 6 months before I applied for my first visa). Luckily I had brought it.

Scanning was worth every penny I think. They were super through and checked all documents while doing.

Got my successful decision through in 5 hours! Greatful to this group. Taking a little break before applying for citizenship(most likely will in April). Speaking of, does anyone know if you can travel as normal when that application is in or do you have to just wait for it to come back?

They shouldn't have asked for your old passport if you didn't have it at any point during your UK stay, so basically if you didn't enter on it the first time.
You can travel while waiting for citizenship.

Updated 15th Sep 2022 - Reference Doc addressing 4 areas:

1. Current ILR Application Procedure for a spouse.
2. Processing timelines.
3. Priority slot availability.
4. Application Documents required.

Time from completing ILR application to booking a Biometric Appointment (non-Priority): 15-30 days.
Time from attending Biometrics Appointment to receiving ILR decision:
- Super Priority gives the decision shortly after Biometrics.  Currently running at 4-5 hours after Biometrics.
- Normal Non-Priority Applications - if you use the app, or attend an appointment instead of using the app, it can take 6 months from submitting the biometrics.  Normal Non-Priority Applications taking 4.5 months (July 2022).

Hi everyone

Have been monitoring this thread as my wife is due to apply for ILR early next year.

We have completed most of the application form in preparation and wanted to flag something - at the end, in 'Pay' section, we are getting the option for Super Priority.  I clicked it and it takes me to the payment screen.

Just checking - does this mean there are slots available?  If so, is it the case that you pay first and then choose a slot?

Will be following up with more questions over next few months but wanted to flag this now in case anyone is looking for a Super Priority slot!

Thanks :)

Yes, if you are checking today and it's giving you the option to purchase Super Priority, it means some of the slots released this morning are still available.

If on a different day, it does not give you the option for Super Priority when you go to the submission page, then it means all the slots released that day are gone, so you need to try again on another day until the option shows up again.

All you do at this stage is pay for the Super Priority service along with your application payment. Then you book your actual biometrics appointment on the UKVCAS website after you have submitted the online application.
