FLR to ILR (M)
« on: April 24, 2022, 11:45:32 AM »
Heya

So I see on the application it says In which category are you applying for indefinite leave to remain?
Spouse of a person present and settled in the UK 2-year route? and I see a 5 year route. I have been on FLR twice for the 2.5 years. So do I put 2 year route? Also, do I take a test for this? As I thought it was only with getting citizenship not settlement. My FLR expires end of May.

It is the 5 year route and yes, you have to pass the Life in the UK test in order to qualify for ILR. You should book your test ASAP and get the official book and app and study.

The official Life in the UK book by the Home Office. It is called the same thing for the app.

You need to have passed the test before you can apply because you have to enter your test registration number on the application. You can't progress without it.

Actually, the application asks if you have taken the Life in the UK test, if you say yes you have to enter your test id number. I don't know what it says if you say no.

But you definitely need to have passed it to get an approval. Or you will need to apply for another FLR(M).

You can submit your application up until the date of your visa expiration date. Get the earliest test that you can in case you don't pass and need to retake it.

Study until you are consistently passing the practice tests on the official app. Don't bother with unofficial apps.

2022 is the newest edition.

https://www.officiallifeintheuk.co.uk/shop

You can also order the e-learning, which is £10.99. I found it very helpful and worked better for me than the book.

Thank you so so much! Would all 3 books be beneficial or just the one needed

I don't think you need all 3 to be honest. Between the main book and the app, you should be OK. I only started studying 3 days before my test and I passed. But I was working overnights and had 10 hours a night I could study.

Yes, this. If you fail the test you have to wait at least 7 days before you can take it again, so you want to allow as much time as possible for it before you apply for ILR.

So, if the earliest test date you can currently get is May 13th, it’s a good idea to see if you can get a cancellation on an earlier date to give you more time.

All the questions on the test are taken directly from the study guide so you’ll want to study and learn the guide so you know how to answer the questions.

If you don’t manage to pass the test before your visa expires, you will instead be granted another FLR(M) (and will need to pay the IHS surcharge again), and then you will be able apply for ILR again once you have passed the test.

Thanks! I rescheduled for the 4th of May as that’s the earliest I can manage. Hoping I pass the first time!
