What are you doing here?

Just curious what everyone is doing in the UK? I know a lot of us are here by marriage but what about the others? Students? Work transfer?

I was in the UK because of marriage.  My DH and I met in Chicago, when he was working here, and shortly after we were married (10 days), his company transferred him back to England....

Came over as a student, stayed for love!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

The first time I lived here was as a student in 1998 (didn't know DH then).  The second time was as a wife (met DH online in 1999) in 2003.   ;D

It's interesting that you separate between those two!  ;)

None of the above for me. I came mostly 'cause I couldn't stand living in the US anymore for many many reasons. If it wasn't here, it would have been somewhere else. This was just an easy move for me 'cause I was already a British citizen (born here), have family here, and the language thing helps as well.

I chose love, but in truth I would have come to study - I just happened to meet dh in the process of planning that. Thankfully.  ;D

I'm returning because I've given the US a year's trial run through remarriage but find the pull to what I've known as home too strong, so I'm dragging my darling husband back with me.....

THe poll doesn't apply to me since I'm back in the US now! I went to the UK for love though - stayed there nearly 3 years and have no repatriated back to the US with my green-card-carrying man.
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Well in our case it was critical mass with life in US (California)...it got really unbearable, the politics and the almost non-existant social life got so bad that we would have gone anywhere if push came to shove and were prepared to live with much much less than what we were used to although i have to say that the fact that i have an EU passport made the transition to europe (London) much smoother. We're glad we got out now rather than in middle age..i still have family in CA and do go back to shop especially with the great exchange rate
Cheers
Zu
PS i am a fashion designer/pattern cutter in London

I came over here for work as a high school counselor...but I've found love and hope to stay both in my job and in my relationship!
