Car argument.
« on: April 18, 2005, 04:28:09 PM »
Ok, my wife and I are having an argument. She wants to get a...gulp...minivan. I hate them..hate them...hate them. I am trying to convince her that we should get something like a Volvo station wagon. On the other hand I am trying to see her side of the argument, and get other ideas.

So, family type people, what kind of car do you prefer? It can be a general answer(i.e. Station wagon, minivan,SUV), or more specific. I was just wondering... If you could get a family car today, what would you buy?

Ugh! I woudnt have a mini van! I had a nice Toyota 4 Runner that I had to give up before I moved here. Last year after the birth of our 4th son we had to decide wheter to get a mini van or a 7 seater station wagon. We tried the Picasso for a year before the birth but didnt really care for the style. We are now driving a Peugeot 307SW  7 seater station wagon. I think we made the right decision.

Personally, I think minivans are the root of all evil.  I drive a Subaru Forester (dunno if it's available in the UK) and love it.  It holds everything I need, yet still feels and drives like a car.

Remember - friends don't let friends buy minivans!  ;D

Station wagon.  Definitely.  It's what I grew up riding in and I would love to have one now!

Oh!  I soooooo want a mini-van.  I really really want one.  Some day I'm going to have one.  Don't know how I'll convince the husband though.  So, I think you should get a mini-van.

I took my (US) drivers test in a Chrysler minivan - the original first model that started the whole trend! I have a bit of a soft spot for them. Here in the UK I'd definitely want a wagon/estate over a minivan/people carrier.

However, SUVs are really the root of all evil!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

In our family we call those excessively stupid vehicles.   ;)

Cars are like handbags. Get the smallest that will hold everything you need to carry.  ;)

It's all about car seats: if you've got more than 2 you need a minivan.  We own a 1976 (yes, 76) Buick Estate Wagon and a 2000 VW Passat Wagon, but with another on the way, the Passat has to go for a minivan.  Besides you'll be safer, trust me.
