Ohhh- I'm not sure! Is Orzo just little pasta? This was the definition of pastina I found

NOUN:    Tiny pieces of pasta, often cooked in soups or used as baby food.
ETYMOLOGY:   Italian, diminutive of pasta, pasta. See pasta.

I think I'll bring some back with me from the US when we go in Sept hehe

OMG my mom and nana used to make me pastina all the time.

it's NOT orzo (that's for risotto).  it's little teeeeeeny tiny starts.  they sell it here, but not in star shape and i forgot the name but can look when in the stores again!

i make it with butter and an egg.  (you crack the egg in at the last minute and stir in with the butter and let cook for 1 min-any more and it will burn).

HEAVEN.  how did i forget my ULTIMATE comfort food!

My Mom and Nana used to make it for me all the time, too Amy!
I never tried it with egg, though...that sounds lovely! It seriously is the ultimate comfort food. Brings back all sorts of cozy childhood memories, that's for sure!

Hope you like the salmon recipe! That site is great for last minute/using what you got meals!

Nothing beats a taco or burrito!! I have tons of Mexican spices packed and two pounds of corn tortillas for when I move over this summer!
Just curious, if the tortillas have an expiration date, how long would they be good for when you got here? If it were me, I would pack masa, and make the torts myself..just a suggestion. I know masa is really cheap, least in Ca.

All this talk of Italian stuff and soup makes me think of GOOD Italian Wedding Soup - MMMMmmmmm!!!!!  Hard to find, but when you do it's really good.  Progresso makes a passable canned version - but nothing like what you get at a good Italian resturant.

talk about memories!! pastina is always a staple in any of my family's  homes when babaies are around..  I  ate with a spoon way tooo late in life and my mom talks about how she had to put pastina in my bottle  and just cut the nipple  of my bottle bigger..  :-[ :-X

LOVE pasta of any kind  but yes I agree.. pastina  is   definately a  comfort food..  YUUUMMMM!!

I had whole wheat pasta with sauce last night, and as it was cooking I was thinking about this pastina discussion.  I would like to know more about how to make it with the egg - do you put the egg in the cooking water, or in the hot drained pasta?  Sorry - sounds like a silly question, but I've never had it before.  It sounds wonderful though!!

Pastina is used traditionally in homemade Italian baby food. [smiley=kid.gif]

if we are talkin about how  to use  egg with pastina  the way italian moms make it for the kids.. it was soft bolied egg beaten in the bottle  with the pastina  ..   or i guess you could  just feed it to the babay  with a LITTLE  spoon   (not these  'pudding" spoons  you see around here!!  ;D ;D)
