English chocolate vs American chocolate
« on: June 06, 2005, 12:40:27 PM »
Thanks to the Food Swap, I ended up with a big bag of Hershey's Kisses! As I'm trying to diet, I didn't even open the bag, but just donated it to the BF. Yes, I know, I'm so virtuous.  :P  Anyway, he and a friend took the Kisses with them for a snack out on the boat last week and they both had the same verdict: "They taste like sick!!" (Of course, that didn't stop them from demolishing half the bag, but boys will be boys.)

Has anyone else thought US chocolate tastes funny? I'll admit, I've never been a huge Hershey's fan as I've always found it too sweet and not chocolate-y enough-- but I never thought it tasted like sick!

Even when I lived in the US, I either ate Cadbury's (which, admittedly, is sweeter than UK-made Cadbury's) or else splurged and went for Godiva, Lindt or Neuhaus.

My father in Law works for Nestle so he brings Jess yummy chocolate and limited editions Smarties  and yes US chocolate tastes slightly waxy...but I like the taste of US coca cola more than UK coke

So funny!  I just had this conversation with some friends at a party this weekend.  Personally, I don't like English chocolate as much as American.  I even like the Cadbury's in the US better!  It's weird I know.  I love Hershey's too!  Kisses are the best, to me at least.

With that said give me Swiss chocolate over anything else anytime!!!

well Belgin chocolate surpasses all...PR chocolate is more Belgian than US ....well, at least when I was growing up...yum.

Our house was across the street from a chocolatier ...and she used to sell chocolate hearts the same size as kisses 3 for $.10 ..I used to run home from school to buy a handful .. :)

I think Hershey's does have a bit of a funny smell/initial taste, but I like your husband will still eat a whole bag if no other chocolate is available  ;D  It is funny, all of my colleagues in the UK claim to hate Hersheys, but when I bring back a bag...it's gone in less than a day.  I guess when it comes down to it, chocolate is chocolate is chocolate.

IMO, English chocolate is so much better than American chocolate.  In fact, I prefer candy from the UK over the US.  That being said, Swiss and Belgian chocolate have no equal.

but I like the taste of US coca cola more than UK coke

I like UK coke more than US coke as it is more pungent.   I dislike Pepsi as it taste like drinking carbonated sugar water.
