Is it just my DH or do all the Brits want to put peas in everything.  He's not so bad about the corn, but it's not a salad unless it's got peas in it.   ???

My DH eats peas, but he's not crazy about them.  He likes to put mayonaise on his peas when he is served them in a restaurant (or pub); I don't cook peas at home.  I have to admit, the mayo is nice on them.

He doesn't cook them.  He opens a can of tuna, a can of peas, and some salad cream and then has it in a sandwich or with crackers.  And if I make cold tuna salad, he opens up a can of peas and pours it into his bowl.  I was just curious if it was him or him Britishness?

How is tuna or pizza with sweet corn that much stranger than other food stuffs?  Honestly?  Chicken salads with grapes or nuts and apples?  The concept of Spam?  A lot of fusion cuisine?

Often with food it is simply adaptation.  Tastes are malleable for the most part.

That said give my tuna and sweetcorn over roasted insects or rat any day.....those are two tastes I'd much rather not acquire.

Well, yes...if those are my choices, then I would definitely rather develop a taste for the sweetcorn w/chicken or tuna than roasted insect or rat; after all, the latter is much higher on the gross scale.

I always thought it weird too, and don't really eat it, and corn on pizza, well, that's just way wrong for me! However, and this doesn't really make sense, I DO eat tuna casserole with corn in it, haven't made one of those in ages though, now I'm getting hungry! mmmmmm, noodles, mushroom soup, lots of cheese, crispy crushed cracker crust on top, corn, tuna.........

No it's not all Brits. I am not a pea fan at all and I have a friend who is positively phobic about them, won't have them on her plate.  I especially don't like them with fish and chips, what is the point?!

LOVE mushy peas on my chips!!!!  Simon was so pleased to see how I loved it - he tells me I'm more English than I am American.  Cracks me up when I think I'm as American as they come!!

Salt and vinegar is all that's needed with fish and chips...oh, and mayo! ;D

Yep - love vinegar on mine too.  If it's really good fish then I don't need tartar sauce or mayo - that's only an emergency condiment for me if the fish is not that great.

I don't use the mayo on my fish anyway.  That's for the chips.  Jamie started me on it, now I'm hooked!

My mom always eats them that way - I love tartar sauce on my chips, more so than on the fish even!  It really slathers the grease on - - mayo on fried food- YUM!!!!   :o

We need to put your friend and my husband together. He is phobic as well....he always emphasizes to the waitress...NO peas (and they still put them on there..grrrr. He hates corn as well....and cauliflower, broad beans, etc.

I, myself, never thought of the concept of corn on lots of things (love it in tossed salads), but it ain't bad!!

Peas are mingin'.

But vinegar on chips.  Mmmm.  I could murder a portion of chips right about now.

Vinegar on chips is sooo good.  It's one of those combos I thought were kind of weird when I first heard it, but now chips taste so boring to me without vinegar. Another thing I really like is grilled cheese on toast dipped in Branston pickle, again something that didn't appeal to me when I first heard about it but I totally love now.
