Oh insomnia...
« on: July 22, 2005, 02:00:02 AM »
How I loathe thee!!!  I've been home from CA for less than 48 hours and while I stayed up late and got up relatively early, I CANNOT sleep tonight.  Maybe it's the events of today or the serious stress load with my dissertation and a move out of the city that's doing it.  Or just plain ol' jet lag.  Whatever the cause, I hate it.  I hate being wide awake at weird times of the night and not being able to get up until late.  I don't want to be a vampire.  I HATE being up at 2am.

Since I'm up, I should unpack my suitcase.  Or something.  MEH!!!
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

True.. there is that.  I just hate being awake at odd times.  I feel so out of sorts all day.  I was already feeling out of sorts with the excitement from today.

I'm up too - sorry you're not able to sleep. I have had some horrendous jetlag while there mostly due to illness and sleeping pills only last so long. It stinks. hope it goes away soon. Oh and good luck on the dissertation - I'll be there this time next year.

Thanks!  I'm making good progress so I should be finished on time.  I took some more sleeping pills so hopefully they will kick in soon.

Insomnia blows! I keep a stash of Ambien on hand, but usually by the time I know I need it, it's too late to take it. :(

That stuff just rules, doesn't it?

Tranqs work as well.  I have panic attacks and anxiety, so I keep some Diazepam on hand for really rough times b/c it kicks in fairly quickly.

I ended up falling asleep around 6am.  I hate seeing the sun come up.  And my day today was totally ruined because I couldn't get up after 3 hours of sleep.   :-\\\\

I used to love that, vampire that I am.  I'd even have a cup of coffee in its honour - and also b/c I felt s***e after being unable to fall asleep all night.

Day 3 of not being asleep before 3am.  Last night, I laid awake until the sun started to come up.  I can't handle this.  I loathe being this off kilter at night.   [smiley=end.gif]

Just don't sleep during the day at all.  It sucks, it's hard, but you have to do it.  Then don't drink anything with caffeine today if you can help it.  Stay active, go for a walk if you can or do some sort of exercise.  These are the things I have to do to keep from insomnia killing me.

Hope you get some sleep!!!  Hugs.

I get bad insomnia from time to time, too. I've never taken any prescription meds for it, though I certainly have considered it. Aside from taking meds, everything onetiger has said will definitely help. A hot bath or shower before bed often helps me, too. But I have to agree that the real key is NO NAPPING. When you're dead tired, it's really hard not to -- especially on a rainy Sunday afternoon -- but you have to resist the urge.

That's just the thing.. I don't nap!  I'm up earlier today because a friend might be coming into town earlier than expected.

Thanks for the advice everyone.  I'll try to keep active today and see if that helps.

have you tried booking a Massage ... a head or body massage is good way of trying to get rid of tension.
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.
