It is a bit of an abnormal shop in that I've had to buy salad, beans and spaghetti shape type things because the girls and I are home for lunches.

I still need to buy mince and taco stuff, a loaf of bread, probably another box of wet cat food, and at least two more jugs of milk.  but that will come to less than £16 I imagine.

So my meals for hte week are steaksandwiches w/salad, banger&mash w/sweetcorn, roast chicken with rice and veg (I have in the freezer), something made with the roast chicken and rice and veg left over, and tacos.  As well as something with pasta(store cupboard and probably the bacon) and a baked potato night when James is out.  :) And Sunday night is always bacon sandwich night.

The only impulse buys were the ice-cream(it was hot) and the magazine.  The snowballs are in place of kitkats for a change.
 :) :)

And you gotta stagger your expensive buys-laundry one week, shampoo the next, cleaners the next.

I went to the supermarket today to buy TWO things and ended up buying about 20 things and spending $30. :-[ I don't have a budget though I should.

DW writes up a list each time we go shopping so we tend to stick to that about 95% of the time.  Sometimes we regularly get things like pretzels but DW keeps forgetting to put it on the list so I don't really count that as going "off-list".

We spent between £50-70 a week for 2 of us depending on whether we need to get a bunch of cleaning type supplies or not.  The only time we've spent about £90 was when we were having a big BBQ and a bunch of people around but then we're not shopping for 2.

We have gotten the occassional chicken for £17 or so from the free range, organic butcher down the road but that's usually a special treat.

In a perfect world, we would spend £50 per week for the two of us and the cat, not counting wine. Lately I've been doing £80 every two weeks because we're beyond skint. I do all of the shopping online for two reasons - first and foremost to stick to the budget, but second because dh is a total miserable nightmare to shop with and everytime we do it he swears he'll never do it again and I swear I'll never go with him again. LOL.

We use Ocado (Waitrose) for the quality and the reliability. I've had very bad luck with Sainsburys and Tesco delivery. There's at least one thread about that somewhere here!

Well...I had a look at the Sainsbury site and realize I need a bit more experience with metric units! I'm having a really hard time, especially with the fruit and veggie selections.  ???

I spend between £50-£70 a week depending on DH's shifts.  That's for 2 adult 1 1/2 children (SD only comes at the weekend) and 3 cats.  I also go once in the week to buy milk & bread and end up spending another £10.00.  I am awful when it comes to spending at the grocery store.  I should have stock in Tesco to get some of my money back.  I could do better.

Geally, it may be worth doing one more shop in-store then saving your receipt so that you have a rough idea of what you buy and their weights.  That might help a bit with the metric conversions.  Since I was used to buying things in pounds, I've tried to remember that 450 (ish) grams equals one pound.

Between 45 - 60 pounds... Glad to know I'm not that abnormal.. I still am converting in my brain and it just seems like an awful lot..but I guess it's not.. I also make it a point to 'eat out of the pantry'  which is  to  try to use up  as much as I can before I re buy..  That helps.. and it  forces me to be creative  with dinners.. and also  I try my BEST not to  waste food or make things go bad.. (not  as easy  to  do)..because sometime I 'forget' what we  have leftover and the fruit goes  furry..  :o  for example..

Ultimate nerd here. I have a spreadsheet that I print out with everything on it that I could possibly want. I plot out the menus for the upcoming week, which I write on the back, tick off what I need for "said menus" - then hit the shop. I spend £40 for me and my two kidlets and that includes cleaning products and hygiene stuff.

I rarely deviate off the spreadsheet so I stay on budget every week.  My boss thinks i'm a bit on the anal side! ;D

We spend about £65 for 2 adults & 1 teenage boy and one almost teenage girl. That includes all cleaning supplies, alcohol, the occasional DVD or CD. We eat almost all organic and I cook a lot from scratch.

OK...after reading all your replies I realize I really do spend TOO much! I too cook most everything from scratch, guess I buy really expensive food or something...or maybe we eat far too much (Dimitri eats enough for two men!)

So...will be following Cait's advice and after next week's shop I will try some online shopping. Do you get a total before ''punching out'' like a regular shopping cart on other sites? If so, I could go back and trim or rearrange if it comes to too much.

I even buy a lot of my fruits and veggies at Lidl which is quite cheap. Hmmmm...

Yes, you do!! It doesn't save me any time at all 'cause I spend so much time fiddling around with quantities, etc. until I get to what I want to spend! LOL.
