I was always closer to my maternal grandparents, probably because they lived closer, and we spent a lot more time with them. Overall, though, I was closest to my maternal grandpa. He was the one I could always talk to about anything, and the one I had the longest. Plus, he had really cool toys - a bulldozer and a trackhoe, that he would take us for rides on.   ;D

When you go on holiday, do you pack a lot, or lightly and wash laundry while you are away?

Depends on if I'm driving or flying, how long the trip is for, and where we're staying (if there is a washing machine there).

How far do you think is too far for a day trip? So, how far away does a destination have to be for you to decide to spend the night?

Depending on how long we will be at the destination, about 3 to 5 hours driving without getting a room. Plus, if it is an evening event we will get a room. The drive to Nashville back in September was 4 hours, but the concert (Iron Maiden and Megadeth) didn't end until about midnight, so we got a room, given the time.

When family or friends are in town for a few days, or a couple weeks, do you prefer to have them stay with you or get a hotel?

My in laws are the only people who have stayed with us longer than a week (it was 4 weeks). It wasn't too bad, but our house isn't too big and guests don't have their own bath. I think people would be more comfortable in a hotel, but it's more convenient and certainly cheaper for them to stay with us. I'm happy to have house guests!

Did you eat a traditional New Year's Day meal?

Not usually.. NYE 2014 I did drag my 8 year old to see Desolation of Smaug and for a dinner at Chili's restaurant :)

If you had to choose driving or public transport, which one would you choose and why?

In London, public transport as there's so much traffic it just seems easier to not have to worry as much....but pretty much anywhere else I prefer driving. It's something I've always enjoyed (though now that my US license expired and I haven't gotten my UK one yet it's not an option anyway).

If you could be any fictional character...who would you be and why?

Peter Pan. So many reasons. I'd love to fly on my own, I believe in fairies, I don't wanna grow up, he's totally in charge of neverland, he has adventures every day. I can also almost always fly in my dreams and I used to be Peter pan in my dreams when I was an adolescent.

Flying or Falling?  I read once that people dream that EITHER they can fly OR that they are falling, but almost never both.  What do you dream?

For as far back as I can remember, I have had dreams of falling, and the sensation of falling, while sleeping. I can't remember if I have ever had flying dreams. Something to think about.

What animal would you love to have as a pet, that isn't normally considered a pet?

I am quite partial to hedgehogs, but I don't think they are pet material.

Where did you go on your least favourite holiday?

My hometown in 2006 (I think). We were supposed to get together with family, but my grandmother got sick and my dad and uncles had to go to to Florida to take care of things, so my aunts and cousins all came to my parent's house for the long weekend instead. It felt ridiculous to be going on 'vacation' to this very boring town in PA.

Do you have a 'go-to' meal that you serve when you have guests?

In winter, chili or beef stew. Both can be made ahead, stay hot in a crockpot for when you are ready to eat, and feed a crowd easily. In warmer weather I don't have anything specific but sometimes to make things easy I will do chili or beef stew and crank up the air conditioning now that we are back in the States. In the UK it was no problem to do either in summer.

Do you play more games on your phone, or on your computer/laptop/tablet/pad/etc?

The last game I played was Scrabble on an actual real life board!  I did play Angry Birds on hubby's tablet when we flew back from the US November 2012.  Other than that I don't play any games.

What is your least favorite game (electronic or 'real')?

Yes, especially to those who don't really use email, etc.

Have you received a post card from somewhere interesting recently?  Where from?
