Finding sitter for night out
« on: August 18, 2005, 04:57:37 PM »
Can someone tell me how to go about this here.  My husband and I would like to go out, we desperately need some time to "date" each other again.  I'm not looking for a Mon-Fri person just someone responsible and AFFORDABLE to watch our daughter for a few hours in the evening.  I am kinda stunned I don't know where to begin with this or what they're called here.  Any suggestions??
THANKS.
Sandra

Don't know if they're willing to drive over to Slough or not, but I can ask my sister-in-law if her daughter is interested - they live in Burnham. We also have good friends in Farnham Common who have a little girl - I'll ask them who they use next time I see them....

We live in Slough not far from Marks & Spencers.  Are babysitters here called "Babysitters"??  I know that there are childminders etc but isn't that where you bring the baby to them during the week?
Thanks!!

Are you friendly with the neighbors, any relatives here that are teenage girls, or friends here that have teenage daughters you would trust?

I used one of the girls from my son's nursery.  The boys knew her from nursery.  She was somebody we were comfortable with, she was qualified and looked for extra £££ here and there.  Perhaps you have a day care center near by with young ladies who babysit in evenings as well.

Alternatively, a friend of mine used a babysitting agency.  She would call and book for whatever evening they were going out.  I don't know if this firm she used was national or local to our area, but I'd be happy to email my friend and get the details.  She was very happy with that agency.

Thanks Kellie and Stella Marie,
I babysat when I was in high school a lot but now that I'm a mom myself I don't feel comfortable with teenage girls babysitting my child.  Maybe a college student or something or a grandma type.  No I don't know my neighbors that well, we've said Hi and Bye, There is one lady that I can see myself getting to know because her son is Sidneys age but I kinda need somebody this weekend.
I will check around some more, I have one possibilty and will continue searching.
THANKS!
Sandra

You know it's best to get to know your neighbourhood nursery where your child will begin attending sooner or later and ask the mums if they offer sitting ( or if they know anyone that does)...I found a wonderful mum that babysits for a reasonable price that way....I also advertised sitting services in the local Sainsburys so perhaps check your local shops ads there's always au pairs offering their evening sitting services to earn extra cash...good luck

If I lived closer, I would offer. I babysat for extra money b/c while working for the Gov't in DC, I always needed it ;)  I would still be willing to do it here.

I'm sure you'll find someone responsible and reliable - any relatives of your husband (I'm assuming he's british, apologize if I'm wrong) know anyone?

The service that my friend used was primarily women in their 40s and 50s...  It was a very professional agency.

Kellie what was the agency? If you have the info can you please PM it to me. I have never heard of a babysitting agency. This would be fantastic as me and Frank never get to go out together.

Is it a UK wide agency? I'd like the details as well please! I think we may have found a reliable sitter through one of Stu's work colleagues but it would still be good to have an agency to fall back on.
