American organic milk is awesome and once you drink that it is hard to go back to the other stuff. It sounds like the milk in the UK is as good as the organic milk that we drink here. And how about the bovine artificial growth hormones that they give cows here. This is why we drink only organic milk here. Does anyone know if this hormone is banned in the UK?

I think the dairy products in the UK are better tasting. :)

Mmm, yeah... the milk here is so much nicer!
Remember how skimmed milk back in the US had a sort of blue-ish tint to it? UGH!

Ewww....I remember when it was like that. Blech. Luckily (and it may only be a local thing) they've changed it and it's MUCH better now. We usually buy either skim or 1% and it's fine. Still think the stuff in the UK is better though. :P

I haven't noticed any difference. I have always used skim milk, even as a child, but drink very little of it. (Except when I was pregnant with my first child 20 years ago...all of a sudden I was coming home from uni classes and chugging cold milk straight from the carton! Never had anything taste so wonderful before. Thought I was going crazy until I found out I was pregnant.)

The skim milk in the US was blue, watery and "thin" when I was little, but nice and creamy now, just like here. Maybe it varies from region to region?

I also put bread in the fridge sometimes. Especially if it is hot and humid.

Or make your own bread. Thats what we do. That way you can always have bread whenever you need it.  ;)

Very true. And I do love my bread machine. But we don't eat all of that loaf before it gets mouldy either! Except when we're really skint and subsisting on beans on toast!  ;)

I don't think they use that here, but I'm 100% with ya - I only drank organic milk in the US for that reason as well!!!!! We actually only buy organic here, too, but that's a taste issue above all else. It's the one thing that dh agrees tastes better organic....

The Sainsbury's near me has finally started selling this - of course, they stopped selling the wonderful Welsh cheeses I was buying... ::)

From the article: "portion sizes that don't make your ars* the size of a house".

So true!!  I don't miss that about the USA! So much waste if you can't eat their portion sizes...

Ahhh, so that's where it's got to.  The Tesco by my works used to carry it and I was forever getting it there and popping it in the fridge at work to take home, but it's been out of stock for quite a few months now.

Me thinks I shall be paying a visit to the Sainsbury near me and have a quick gander.  :)

I agree that skim milk is tastier in the UK, but they do have good milk in the US. Hood is pretty much always tasty. The one thing that irks me about milk in the UK is that it goes off so quickly. It starts to smell after a couple days, even though I keep my fridge at the coldest setting. I go through a ton of milk as a result.  :-\\\\

That's because it doesn't have all the crap in it that US milk has. It would worry me more if my milk, yogurt, cheese, etc. lasted forever!!! ;)

Does anyone else get their milk delivered here in the UK?

I love knowing that there is a fresh pint waiting outside the front door when I get up in the morning.   :)

My in-laws do and I've been trying to convince my husband to start doing it.  Maybe when we move into the new house...new house, new milk!  ;)

My neighbors get it. I would like the convenience but the thought of warm milk on my doorstep makes me gag. Also, her milk always has cream settled on the top of the bottle  [smiley=puke.gif] I cant even look at it!
One time we got someone's milk order by mistake. We dont know where it was supposed to go so we just put it in the fridge. It didnt last but three days.

It was whole milk. YUCK! I was using it just for the baby. The other kids use semi skimmed and I use skimmed once in awhile.
