Not always as good as you remember
« on: October 06, 2003, 08:10:02 PM »
Hubby comes home with a few packs of Oscar Meyer bacon from Harvey Nicks.  Wifey is thrilled because she misses Yankee bacon.  She fries up a pack and is appalled at all the fat.  Wifey decides she doesn’t really miss Yankee bacon after all.  She thinks it's okay for a treat once in a while, but for the most part her bacon sandwiches will stay decidedly English.

LOL, Caitlinn.  Isn't that always the way!  I did the same thing with so many "oh my god!  Look what I found" products.

There are still about 10 packs of Jello in my cupboard and a whole tin of Libby's punkin pie mix that's been there for two years!   ;D

I have not even got there yet and I love english bacon.  Though the thick cut natural bacon from the Whole Foods Market is a close second.  On the topic at hand I always find things don't tast quite the same...had a similar experience with Stove Top stuffing.....I think we idealize the taste.

I have a question.....

anyone else have the weird habit of liking bacon with maple syrup?  YUM!

Send that stuff my way, girl. I'll make use of it. Especially for Thanksgiving as this year I think I'll be doing the big dinner and all.

Harvey Nicks is selling Goldfish crackers. I remember them being more cheesier. They're really kinda gross.

Oh oh oh! And I found the white choccy chip hershey bars at my Morrisons. Good god it was the best. Missed those.

Well, I still love Stove Top Stuffing - even though my oldest has become a Paxo convert.  :D

And, yes, I DO love bacon - any part of the pig, really - dunked in syrup!  Bacon, hamsteak (gammon steak), spam, scrapple - if it comes from a pig, I like it with syrup!  ;D  My husband does admit he sees the appeal - though he hasn't developed the love of it I have.   ;)

OMG, you said the 's' word ... SCRAPPLE!  Now, I do really, really miss that and if anyone tells me what's in it, I shall never forgive you.  I prefer to continue thinking of it as misc. pig parts.  :o

I am hoping to find a homemade recipe for scrapple...  nothing like it...love it, and the one real food product I will miss...  knowing it is not known all over the states, tells me it surely will not be in England.

I've got a couple of recipes I stumbled across. Being from Texas and having a friend from Maryland move here, she was always talking about it and my curiosity got the better of me.
I haven't made any of them tho yet (not to say I won't).

Altho not true to form (Pennsylvania Dutch use a soupbone and marrow bones, hearts and livers), the one I have uses ground pork and ground beef, with the only hard to find ingredient being cornmeal.

Let me know if you are interested and I'll send to ya!
