The airlines also have to pay landing fees and take off fees from the country they are going to.............if it a popular place the fees can be high.......it is per plane and they divide it out between the seats.................

Is anyone planning to go to USA for Christmas?
2 weeks ago I was cacking myself cos I could not find anything less than £1500 for 2 adults.
Then today I booked with klm.com for less than £1000 for bhx to phx return.
The only problem is we travel Christmas Eve & see parts of USA we didn't know had airports!
These are small... those are far away.

TIP: When shopping for a good airfare get a fare quote from your closest airport as well as other airports which you could travel to to save money. For example. I live 20 mins from BHX but nearly always fly out of LON because the fares are that much cheaper. Even considering the cost of gas and the inconvenience of the car trip I usually do fly from LON.
The same applies when flying into any city. My mother lives in TN but fares to TN are always pardon the pun, "skyhigh" so I always fly to Chicago and fly another cheaper airline from there to TN.

So my original plan was to fly from Birmingham to Nashville but instead booked London to Chicago, Chicago to Nashville on two different airlines. I saved over £200 by doing a little bit of research and was only slightly inconvenienced.
