Update:

Weellll, I am sick with Bronchitis/Borderline Pneumonia  >:( So, I've had to introduce myself to the medical system a lot sooner than I'd like. Found a sweet Dr who prescribed me a $150 course of anti biotics that were free as some kind of trial programme. I ended up having quite a bad reaction to them and had to go back, but hubby demanded they give me Amoxicillin, so far, so good :)  There was also some seriously strong cough meds I managed to OD on (not realising quite how potent the stuff was) and that prescription was $89.99 for a small bottle of medicine! GASP! Even though I'll get a good portion back, it's quite shocking for a Brit to see a bottle (ANY) bottle of medicine cost around £50+  :o

I have my credit card application secured, my State non-driver I.D sorted (they spelt my name wrong so I had to make them do it again!

Then DMV told my hubby that there are no test appts til March 2006  :o However, you can usually get in quicker if you pay a driving school between $250-400 and that gets an appt for December 9th- I felt this was such a scam I e-mailed the Attorney General of CT and told him I felt this was pretty poor when we have to have a car to secure decent employment and I resented being made to go through all the Immigration hoops, get really expensive insurance only to come here and have no chance of getting work - anyway, his office called me back yesterday (I was sleeping for first time in 4 days) and they told my husband they would be looking into it and seeing if they can a) move the test forward and b) possibly getting a re-imbursement for some of the money! YAY!

VERY impressed they responded so quickly (er...hallo local MP's office in the UK ;)

My new unrestricted SS card arrived in the mail and no hassle at the SSA office for me and hubby has just taken a temporary job at the local drugstore until we can get this test passed and buy a car :)

So, apart from a temporary blip, doing pretty gooooood :)

I'm so glad you're feeling better!

The DMV thing is a complete pain, and it's like that everywhere.  Glad that the AG's office was quick to get back to you.  I guess that's the benefit of living in a state the size of my living room.  ;)

Glad it's all starting to fall together.

Hey Sheril

(((hug)))

I'm sorry that you've not been well.  Although I know that there's still so much to do, try hard to get some very well deserved rest.

Everything will fall into place.

Update.

I've had some lovely PM's asking me how I am doing - so wanted to share.

So far, so good! My husband has settled into his job really well, this is the end of his first mth and he works for a subsiduary of a New England based bank.  We have a very good, old but reliable car (low mileage in great condition) who is serving us very well.

I started looking for a job middle of January and just got a temp (to perm) position through an agency (first one I interviewed for woo-hoo) it's a senior admin position to the Dean of a very cool department at Yale  ;D  It's my first full week starting tomorrow and I am thoroughly enjoying it - everyone, without exception and thankfully including my closest colleague, has welcomed me warmly, encouraged and supported me.

I work for a very dynamic person and I will get to do a lot, there are all sorts of courses to do and for the first time in years, I am actually looking forward to going to my job everyday and I was soooooo terrified I wouldn't get one :)

Health insurance has kicked in from hubby's job, so we're covered there and so far.......fingers crossed, things have gone according to plan, much to my excitement and relief.

I have met some of the friendliest, most helpful people ever this time around and it's all falling into place. Still loving the shopping (the prices of course!) and I am STILL converting in my head to sterling, whenever the dollar price doesn't suit me, LOL.  I have a brand new work wardrobe, accessories and just "stuff" and I am learning to make my money go further, I've had loads of things for free too.

Please excuse the little "brag" - I hate to brag, but I am so excited! Thanks for the PM's guys, it's great to hear from you all and I'll have my own PC again soon - until this weekend,I was on dial-up - urgh

Hope you guys are doing well, I do try to keep up with posts  but sometimes I can't respond.

Aw, Sheril, that's ace!  So glad to hear it's going well and remember, some of us Sephora-less creatures are pea green over here!  >:(

Redken for everyone!  Actually, I'm trying MOP Vitamin C out just now.  :D
