im assuming you order them through your eye doctor like we do, but are they expensive??

Yes, I order mine through my eye doctor..It costs me £13.00 a month and I get a three month supply that I pick up at the end of each month. I wear my contacts a month at a time and then throw them away.

I wanted to get the Daily Disposables but they were £50.00 a month..I may still get them later though, very convenient and no hassle! I still think the price is a bit steep though!

Do they have anything here equivilant to 1-800-CONTACTS, where you can order discount lenses via the phone or online?  That's where I always used to order mine in the US.

thats where I get mine now.  Might just continue to do so when I get there!

There is an online place here. I don't have the details any more because they couldn't do my lenses but you are bound to come across it.

I'm a contact lens wearer! until recently I'd always gone into the local opticians, paid for an eye test, then ordered monthly disposables working out to £10/month for lenses (£60 a order for 6 months supply) and then around £10 for the 6 months in all in one solutions.

at which point by ordering the same 6 months supply of exactly the same lenses saved me 50% (ish)!!  just £34 inc delivery!

Needless to say, saving anything here in rip off and expensive UK especially to the tune of half price gets my business every time!

For the other types of lenses I don't know if the savings are as much or less or more, but doesn't hurt to get quotes from this site! - At some point I'll search for other similar sites and compare prices !

I'm always recommending them to everyone (I should work there!).... http://www.postoptics.co.uk/ for contacts and solutions. I used them in the US and they are here too. My monthly disposables are £35 for 6 pairs. Usually if you order a 6 month supply of solutions or lenses, the shipping is free. And there are quite frequent 'deals'.

Plus they have a list of 'friendly' opticians around the UK that will hand you your prescription without a fuss like others I tried before finding postoptics was in the UK too. Boots flat out refused to give me the script by saying it was their property for their use only and charged me £10/pair for the lenses.

Best to shop around for what you need. For me, this place is the best and they are friendly too if you need to ask any questions about your order.

That is bizarre! I had my eyes tested there recently and they gave me a copy without my even asking.

Or, you could do what I did and get LASIK before moving to the UK, and never have to worry about contacts or glasses again.  Best chunk of change I've ever spent.

This was back in 2000 and probably one of my first (and rather few) experiences with the notorious lack of customer service in the UK. I was in a near argument with the woman but she flat out denied me the script unless I purchased at least 6 months worth of lenses from them. I refrained from informing her it was like ransom and she should be ashamed of herself but she told me it was their policy (obviously not true!). Needless to say, it was my last visit to the Opticians Dept there.

The next place I went, Specsavers, was difficult in giving the script too but since they didn't supply my brand of lenses and wanted to give me their equivalent,  I told him that I would not change brands (not that it really matters probably) and he reluctantly gave me the script (with a bit a gruff too). Maybe it's just me!

I have been seriously looking into Lasek/Lasik surgery of late though. My vision is horrible and have had glasses for about 30 years (20 of them with contacts instead).  Probably should be another topic for eye surgery recommendations in the UK.
