Haven't been to any of these as I am not yet there, but thanks for the heads up.  I will definitely jot down these places so I can try them out.  The thought of no good mexican restaurants over there is almost as heartbreaking as leaving my family.

Anyone interested in a London gathering and a bite at Taqueria? Selfishly, it's quite close to where I work (or at least will work until July - see jobs board for details  ;) ) so I'd be up for drinks and Taqueria one evening - but maybe in June as May is already looking like it will be overspent in a very big way! LOL.

I am craving mass quanties of Mexican food right now, comfort food. I think  this weekend I will start my tour. Cool Chile also has a stall at Borough Market.

Have you heard of this one in Brixton?

Anne, I'd do a meet up at Taqueria one of these days.

I went to Taqueria yesterday. While it did not make me weep with happiness, it was pretty darn tasty.

I had Tamal (not sure where the 'e' went), Gordita-  thick corn tortilla split with chorizo, refried beans and salsa and a side of black beans.

The tamale was melt in my mouth heaven... until I came across the raisins (hydrated, so they were more like mushy grapes) and almonds, I am guessing that was part of the pork picadillo?   :-\\\\ Ah well, just pick those bits out.   ;)

The Gordita was okay... the corn tortilla was nice and so was the teeny bit of chorizo.

The black beans were soooo good I wanted to lick the bowl clean!!

Ambience- The place has the taqueria feel to it rather than a sit down nice Mexican restuarant with Mexican music and I do believe Mexican staff! Vegetarian options- double check the ingredients with the staff because there may be some surprises! Presentation- The food is served on tiny plates so not very conducive for those who like to mix their food. Location- It's out in Notting Hill near Portabello Market (but I'd probably stick with street food at Portabello Market if I was in the area on a Saturday) Price- Not on the taqueria cheap side. I paid £9 for my three sides. They also stock all their goodies from the website from beans to spices to chiles to chocolate.

But NO burritos!   :o ah, my hunt continues

Thanks for the report, jklm...  the raisins and almonds in the tamale would have put me right off.  :(

Thanks for the report, jklm!

This country and raisins, sultanas...I swear.  Enough with the raisins in nearly everything.

I finally had some decent Tex-Mex at the Texas Embassy in Trafalgar Square

http://www.texasembassy.com/

Been there twice now and they did not disappoint. But of course, it's still not proper Mexican food. I shall try Taqueria this weekend!

Jodrell,
So I just looked at the website for Mexifresh. I thought they were a restaurant. Looks like they only do delivery and sadly they dont deliver to my postcode (n1)

I went to Pacifico yesterday and had a burrito...  :-\\\\  not so good, something funky about the salsa... bland rice and beans... and tortilla.

I'm sooooo glad I'm moving closer to London - mexican food does NOT exist in Yorkshire, I have found cuban, spanish and some other hispanic influenced food, but nothing like home. 2 months til I go home and 2.5mts til we move closer to London.
Sometimes I feel like an alien in my own country

I've just looked at all of those menus an I'm dying here!  I'm pregnant and have been craving good Mexican!  I make nachos, including guacamole, sometimes, but they're nothing like what I could get at these places!!!

Sorry you are having pregnant Mexican cravings!!!  Poor girl! :(

I miss Chipotle.  Their veggie/guac soft tacos were awesome.
