Chiropractors
« on: February 28, 2006, 12:56:00 PM »
I just had my first-ever chiropractic experience this morning! My father is a doctor, so I was raised with the "All chiropractors are quacks!" mentality. However, I've had a killer back problem for the past week and didn't know where to turn. It happened about a year ago as well, and all my GP could do for me then was give me painkillers. I figured someone else had to be able to do more. So I made an appointment with a chiropractor ... after a little initial trepidation when I read in they Yellow Pages ad that they also treat horses and other livestock!!

Anyway, this woman was incredible! She was able, just by looking at me, to tell exactly what was wrong. Of course she examined me, too, but I just meant that she thought it was pretty obvious by watching the way I walked, sat, etc. She talked to me for over an hour, explaining exactly what was going on -- using a big plastic spine, etc. I was worried that the treatment itself would be painful, but she told me she practices "gentle" chiropractics, so no pain. It was so great. She did some gentle manipulations and, while the pain isn't gone, it's much better. I'm going back for a follow-up next week.

Oh, and I'm now wearing an oh-so-attractive velcro SI belt.  :-\\\\

Anyone else have positive chiropractic experiences?

I had a really nasty car accident when I was 10 that left me with two fractured vertebras in my lower spine. I went to a chiropractor until I was 12 and always loved it. I had this really big fat woman named Rebecca who did it and she would like squish you into her when she was manipulating the bones. I always walked away feeling much better. It's funny looking back, though, becuase I have big hang ups about people twisting my head to crack my bones. I don't know how I did it.

My back pain has come back recently and I've only just been to see my GP about it last week. Apparently they don't have chiropractors on the NHS so I'm forced to go to a physiotherapist.

Anyways, I always recommend a chiropractor because they can help when they know what they're doing.

No, it's not on the NHS, but it's not too expensive!

I hear it's about £35 or so a session, depending on who you go to. It's not too bad, it's just we're strapped for cash while we're buying the house.  :)

Mine was exactly £35! You were right on the money! But that's only for initial visits. Followups are only £20. Seriously, it's worth it for how much better I feel right now! :)

With my back problems, I've always been helped a great deal by a visit to the chiro. I had a great one in Indiana, and a great one in England... who was epecially good because he was so cute. :) I always had a great experience with them very carefully explaining what was wrong, what they were doing... and never had the issue (that is so often joked about) about them saying "Ok, now I need to see you 3 times a week for the rest of your life!" :D My best experiences were getting an adjustment at the chiro, and then getting a massage immediately afterwards by a massage therapist in the same clinic. Absolute BLISS.
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

I was in a car accident a couple of years ago. I was the passenger in a stopped vehicle that was hit from behind by a guy doing about 55mph who never even braked before hitting us. A few days after it happened I started getting sick in the mornings. My symptoms were exactly like morning sickness and I went to the doctor several times and they kept telling me they didn't know what was wrong (after insisting on two pregnancy tests even though I told them I wasn't having sex!). Finally, after 6 months of daily morning sickness (sometimes it would hit in the afternoon as well but not usually) a friend's mother who is a nurse recommended seeing a chiropractor. I went in, told her what was wrong and she said, "I know what that is!!!" Then said, "Sorry for sounding so excited. This is just really uncommon." LOL Anyway, she cracked my neck for me and said that it should help. Was never sick again!!! Strangest thing.

same thing for me...got in a car accident...went to the chiropractor.  oh man....he was smokin' hot too!!  i luved going just so i could look at him.  during the time i was seeing him (i think for a total of about two months), anytime anything on my body was bothering me, i told him about it.  at the time i was seeing him, the job that i had required loads of data entry.  i started having some issues with my wrists and elbows, i told him about it, and he had them to the list of things that needed to be adjusted.

i really miss going...and i know i need to go back.  i actually have been looking at ads in the paper for 15GBP for initial exam and 20GBP for every visit after type of thing.  that is way cheaper than it was back home.  i considered staying on with my chiro after i went off the insurance from the accident...but it was too expensive for me.  i can't recall off the top of my head...but i think it was about $35 each visit....three times a week!!  it was too expensive....and i haven't seen that beautiful man every since....  :\\\'(

How come I ended up with a skinny little woman chiropractor?!?!   >:(

Mine was the same way! She was so happy ... not because mine was uncommon, but just because I think she got a kick out of how obvious it was and everything! I guess chiropractors really do love their work! :)

I used to visit one pretty regularly back home. Well, when I lived in Florida, I had one there, and when I moved back to Ca. I found a great one there. Always helped me, as I've got a slightly crooked back bone, and sometimes my back just goes all out and funky. I always loved my visits, and especially liked it when she straightened out my legs, (one would be a tiny bit longer than the other, because of my spine.) It always made me laugh, because I would lie flat on my back, and she would put my feet together to see if they were even. More often than not, they weren't!

Glad you had a pleasant experience and I hope you feel better.
About ten years ago I was in a car accident and was under the care of a chiropractor for about 3 months. He did wonders and the treatment felt so nice! I think chiropractors have come a long way since their 'bone cracking' days.

That's exactly what mine did today!! I was blown away when I looked up at my feet (from my lying down position) and saw one leg longer than the other! Freaky! She fixed me, though! :D

Me too!! I never even realised it ... but today, she had my lying on my stomach, and I could totally feel one hip pushing into the bed thing more than the other! The other was barely even touching!!
