groomsmen gifts
« on: March 23, 2006, 04:51:07 PM »
anybody have any novel and unique ideas for these that don't involve the usual beer stiens/cufflinks/golf crap/etc/zzzzzzzzzzzz [smiley=sleeping2.gif]?

i was looking at doing bowling shirts & having each guy's name embroidered on, but i need more ideas.

i'm stumped.

I don't know what a beer stein is, but a friend of mine got his groomsmen engraved flasks for their gifts, and a bottle of jack each (to fill up said flasks) - they seemed to go down well.

We got our groomsmen one of those nautical weather instrument thingys.  You know the brass wall mounted set that has 3 different units... a barometer, a clock, and can't remember what the 3rd thing was.  But Nauticalia has some great ideas that aren't beer oriented.

I think I might just buy them individual gifts to suit them, rather than trying to come up with some generic thing that everyone would like. But I love the bowling shirt idea!

doesn't your fiance figure that out? I'm leaving that up to him with a few ideas, but otherwise, you have enough to worry about!

what are you getting your bridesmaids? I haven't figured that one out yet.

I've never understood why people feel obliged to give gifts to their bridesmaids and ushers at all!
Isnt it meant to be 'an honour'  to be asked to be in someone's wedding?

It is an honour, but it's also sometimes a very expensive honour for those involved. I think a gift is just a nice little way of saying thank you.

The last wedding I went to (I was a bridesmaid) was in the US last fall. It was a weekend long event at a place in the country with lodges, etc. As a gift, the bride hired a massage therapist for the day and gave every member of the wedding party (men and women) a "coupon" for a full massage the morning of the wedding. It was fabulous!

My brother in law got his groomsmen all pocket watches with an engraving on the back with something like the date a small message.  They have this cute photo at the of them all in their tuxedos dangling pocket watches!

Yep, exactly.  Those bridesmaid's dresses aren't cheap!  It's just a nice way to say "Hey, thanks for buying a dress you'll probably never wear again/paying for your own suit rental and standing up next to us."

I'm not participating in what to get the groomsmen, cause the only guys in the wedding are his childhood friends who I barely know!  I'm letting him take care of that.  But I'm helping to pick out the bridesmaids and the groomswoman (who are all friends of both of ours, and one is his sister) gifts.  We're just allotting a certain amount of money to each person and treating it like it's that person's birthday.  Hopefully we'll get them each an individual gift that they'll actually like.  :)

We lucked-out -- DH's groomsmen were all his crazy drunken cousins, so engraved steins worked perfectly for them.  They kept bringing the steins up to the bar for refills at our reception.  For the best man, we got an engraved Zippo 'coz he likes to smoke stuff.   ;D

I think that one depends on the age of the groomsmen in question. My dh got a flask from his bf's wife at their wedding and he was really bummed out about it - it seems to be the Man Present that everyone gets when they don't know the Man in question very well and even though dh is no stranger to JD, he felt like it insinuated that the only thing they could think of about him was that he liked to drink.  :(
