Since March, apparently, but today's the first time I'd seen it! On the plus side, they claim they're not going to phase out the old-style jars. Whew! ;)

I wonder which is better environmentally?  I mean which is better recycling.  Does anyone know if glass is better than plastic?

Only since March? I'm sure I saw it long before that,  like last year.  Maybe I imagined it.

Well Mindy if only you had today's Observer instead of the Mail on Sunday you would have seen the article on this very subject of Marmite plastic vs glass:

For me, I think glass is better. I re-use jars when I make chutney or marmalade. Marmite jars don't really work for that, though! ;)

I re-use jars as well, for making juices... but a ketchup bottle really wouldnt do me much good.  Shape is too awkward.

Modified because mysteriously I just noticed that only this quote posted - not my comment!

All I was going to say was that weirdly our council won't take plastic, only glass!

Im no expert here, but I can only imagine the manufacturing process for glass is much cleaner than plastic.. not sure about recycling though.

The  Heinz in the upside down bottles is without a doubt thinner, stick to the proper ones when you can get them.

I thought so! Thanks for validating that!  ;)

One thing I noticed is there is a distinct difference between asking for ketchup and tomatoe sauce. For the longest time I couldn't fathom why anyone would want tomatoe sauce (as I know it). But I realized it is basically a generic, watery ketchup pastey gloop. That's the stuff that I can't stand.  Sorry, but it's Heinz all the way for me!

oh yuck...same here, sarah!! Only heinz, thanks!!
