A little late, but as a native Swede I'm rooting for Sweden. It was probably good though that the game against T&T ended in a draw since my wife is from T&T!

why does British tele get off on making fun of the USA (sportswise that is)  The fist shot of anything to do with USA before the game is of the crowd and people chanting USA and draped with the flag, then they cut to the commentators and they make some snide remarks about them.  But then they show another countries fans doing the same thing and they are in awe of the support they give to thier country.  I just don't understand it.

Bloodied, but not beaten!

Oh, you evidently haven't watched a Germany game then?   ;)

During the last World Cup you could actually buy mugs, towels, etc. that had the score from when England beat Germany 5-1.   :)  They LOVE to hate Germany.  Or watch the Three Lions(football's coming home) video sometime-with all the German fans with horrible mullets.

I'm supporting the following in the group stages:
Group A - Germany
Group B - Trinidad & Tobago
Group C-  Holland
Group D- Mexico
Group E- Italy
Group F- Croatia
Group G- France
Group H- Spain

Italy's behaviour last night was appalling.  I can't believe the ref gave the USA TWO red cards against Italy's ONE.  Italy is a bunch of whiny little girls.  The only USA player to go off had his face split open and he came right back on.  About three of Italy's players went off on the stretcher with them acting like they had broken legs and they were back on about 20 seconds later like nothing happened.  I hate Italy and I hope the Czech Republic stuff em.

Brave, valiant USA.  ::)   ;)

I get the impression from this post that you dont watch an awful lot of football in the normal season.
This 'appalling' behaviour you're talking about is pretty normal in European football.   :)

No it's not.  I watch quite a lot of football with DF and he thought it was the most atrocious and calculated incident he's wittnessed.  Perhaps in some Europeans countries Italy's behaviour may be acceptable but in the Premiership in England it is not.  From what I've seen, it's "normal" and to be expected from Italian players. As the BBC website said in this article:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/italy/5092438.stm

"Italian players have these habits and they have a tough time at international level."   ;D

I agree with you. DH also thought DeRossi's move was pretty bad, and this from a guy who prefers the late 80's/early 90's style of football!

I have to agree with PNG.  Those types of displays aren't uncommon in European football and any one watching a good deal of European football will be aware of the theatrics.  WC 2002 saw its share too, ala Rivaldo in the Brazil v Turkey game.
