The USA did very well against Italy, the Italians looked a little outpaced by a 9 man US squad.  Regarding that Beasley almost-goal, should the offsides call be made against McBride even though he wasn't involved in the goal?
The refs seemed to be very much sticking to the letter of the law.  I couldn't believe all of the send-offs.
They've got their work cut out for them as well as really needing a win by Italy against the Czech Republic.
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround

Today was definitely one of the weirdest and most eventful so far of the World Cup.  Ghana beats top-ranked Czechs 2-0??  USA and Italy get THREE men thrown off the field & USA manages a tie with a 9-man squad?  Not to mention some of those fouls were pretty beautiful :D - I thought I was watching hockey for a second!

Very exciting watching the game out in a "pub".  I put that in quotes because I'm in the US.  The place was crazy!  I thought for a minute that the refs forgot their yellow cards!  BF called from the UK after it was final to say "Not bad for a bunch of beginners!" ;D

Have to admit the ref was a little inconsistent but i couldnt argue about the sending offs, he got those right. McBride was interfering with play as he was standing infront of Buffon in an offside position denying him a clear view. In al honesty under the letter of the law the ref got the major decisions correct.  Up next for the Yanks is Ghana who are very strong and quick. How most of them ply their trade in Europe so i think they'll overcome the US no problem. I am disappointed with the States as i wanted them to have a good WC, enabling football to get a higher profile over there. Good luck against Ghana, you're gonna need it.  :D

Kezza......what's your problem with team USA?  After they lost to the Czechs you laughed at them and said they couldn't "handle" the European teams, then they come out in a game everyone expected them to lose and they draw with them after being a man down for most of the second half.  You relished in the loss to the Czechs and then you just pass over their phenomanal game against Italy.  What's with the hating.  I'm just curious who you support and where you are from, that will probably answer most of my questions.

You're blowing this out of proportion.
I dont see Kezza as having a 'problem' with the USA, and he/she wasn't displaying any 'hating'.
Kezza was just stating an opinion, which happens to be different from yours.

never mind, i just saw his/her post in the other World Cup thread and I see that he's an England supporter.  That explains it.  For some reason most people here in this country (NOT EVERYONE, BUT A LOT) really get a kick out of watching team USA fail in the World Cup and at soccer in general.  The announcers on "Match of the Day last night were just down right picking on USA.  Basically calling them babies when they showed thier post game remarks about the refs.  Yet everygame has had the same post game interviews about poor officiating, but USA is singled out.  I just don't understand.

Really?  You don't?  :)  Everybody loves to hate the US.  And everybody loves to see them fail at something-especially when they excell at a lot of other sports. It's just one of those things.  Don't read too much into it.

i guess i'm just not used to it.  This is the first world cup for me being in another country.  Obviously I don't see the bias when i'm in the US watching the game or highlights.  I guess it's just something we have to deal with.  Oh well, not our problem, it's the worlds i guess.

I will say though, I'm a bit 'over' those Budweiser adverts... I'm all for poking fun at oneself, but...  :-\\\\

I dont think i've seen one of those adverts yet... my DH is a chronic channel surfer, and never watches adverts... immediately starts flicking the channels during the break.

Sorry if it sounds that way, but i actually want the States to do well. If they do well then football may get more respect overthere, from what i understand that most americans don't really care about the WC, which i find astounding, it's only the biggest sporting event in the world.

And yes i support England, people say we're playing crap and i agree. Playing crap but with 6 points, no goals conceded and through to the last 16. I'd like to see what would happen if we were playing good. I apologise if i have offended anyone, my intention was to state my thoughts.

So far today, the Aussies had a good, hard slog. But the difference between the teams was the quality, that final touch, composure, etc.

I could not believe what i saw in the Argentina game, unbelievable football, great attacking football.
