Unless she's qualified in shortage profession, such as social work, she'll need an employer-sponsored work permit to remain in the UK for longer than 6 months.

So if we employed her then she could come over here that way.

You'd have to prove that no one else in the UK or EEA could fill the position, so that probably wouldn't work in this case since she can't be too qualified at 18.

Since she's not related to you in any way, you can't sponsor her for any other type of visa.  Her best option is to come over for university, though the costs for an international student may be prohibitive.

I am a musician myself. If I said we wanted to employ her as our singer would that work.

No.  If I recall correctly, one of the requirements for a work permit is that the person being employed must have either a university degree or three years' work experience at the graduate level. That wouldn't be the case here.
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

you have to prove to the Home Office that no one else in the UK or EU was suitable as well as meeting the other requirements.

If one of her parents is a British citizen, she may be able to get a British passport.  If we're talking about grandparents, great-grandparents, or further back, then no, it won't make a difference.

it needs to be one of the parents if she is a US citizen.  sorry, but anything other than parents won't do it unless she is also a Canadian or other Commonwealth national.
