Decided to get married in States
« on: July 17, 2006, 08:32:53 AM »
Well...after much family talk, we've decided to get married in the States instead of running away to Mauritius (was told by stepmom that dad would be heartbroken)...now I have to try tow work with stepmom and pregnant sis-in-law to plan a wedding in the US while being here.  Anyone else did this?  How'd it work out?  I'm getting nervous about it all! (And I'm not a huge wedding person...it's more about the rest of the life for me)

What a drag!  Mauritius sounded a great idea.. especially if you're not really into the idea of 'a wedding'.

Good luck organising everything...  i imagine it will be a headache.
It was bad enough trying to arrange a wedding in Glasgow when i was living in London...  a transatlantic one would be even worse!

All the best!   When's the big day?

When I saw this thread, I thought you guys had got married while you were on holiday!!  ;D Obviously I haven't planned a transatlantic wedding before, but I just wanted to say try not to stress out with all the planning. Like you said its the rest of the life thats really important. I'm sure it will be beautiful. Congrats!

Since you're not into the whole "big wedding" deal, you should be just fine.  It means you won't get stressed out as easily if tiny things go wrong.  ;)

I've been planning a wedding in the UK from Oregon for nearly a year, now.  At first it was slightly overwhelming, but with the Internet it's really not bad at all.  I'd say look on US wedding planning websites for tips that are relevant to the area you'll be getting married in, and then go from there.

Get a venue which comes with a wedding planner.  A friend of mine got married in a small hotel/resort in NH and the woman at the resort practically did everything.  Food...flowers....DJ...Photographer.  It was really easy for her.

I don't have any advice but I just wanted to say congratulations to you and Roy for finally deciding on where you were doing it. That's a HUGE step

I think it's great that you guys are doing it in the States. I think having all your family there will be very important to you in the end :)  I don't think it should be too difficult to plan it from a distance really. Not with the power of the internet and all that :)  Have you decided on a date yet?

Wow I thought you decided to get married on your holiday too!  ;D Well anyways.. I hope everything goes your way! I agree, enlist lots of help from your family and friends this side of the ocean and just enjoy your day. I imagine the happily ever after part will be that much happier if you don't stress too much over the particulars  :)

I did my wedding the otherway across the Atlantic.  We had it in the UK, but I was in the US!  My fiance was incharge of the whole thing because I was not interested in planning it 1,000 miles the other way in my hometown with only my mother there to do it.  My mother and I have two very different tastes and she knew that this was the best option.  Anyway, best of luck.  I'm sure it will be fine.  Internet is extremely useful!  It's how I chose our venue!

I had my wedding   a state apart and I guess the best thing is having great trust in the main person involved.  and of course be able to  'let go'  of some stuiff you can't control.  It all worked out in the  end..

I've been planning my wedding for a year from London and now I'm back in the states for the final few weeks to get all the remaining details in place.  Thank goodness for the internet!  And the help of my parents.  You should definitely allow yourself some time in the states before the big day.  I've had appointments and whatnot's EVERY single day for the last 2 weeks since I got home!  But it is fun and I can't believe the wedding is so close now.  Best of luck to you and congratulations on your decision :)
