Pie is a big deal in our house. My kids eat it for breakfast when I make it. They got that from one of DD's soccer coaches in San Diego. She had a breakfast pie party every Thanksgiving morning. We always attended!
Her story is really good. Her mom used to cook an extra apple pie so that on Thanksgiving morning, her family could eat the pie and she wouldn't have to worry about feeding them, she could cook in peace. They moved to a new city and the kids bragged to the neighbourhood kids that they got to eat pie for breakfast on Thanksgiving. The neighbours thought it was a joke and turned up Thanksgiving morning with a pie. The Pie Party was born and the tradition has lasted 20 years!
My kids love pie for breakfast. Their favourite is Lemon Meringue. mine is apple. DH's is raisin.
I learned to make pastry from my grandmother and honed it later with some help from my MIL. My mom refused to make pastry.
I make pies for special occasions, or if I have that huge desire for pie. I don't much like bought pies.
My parents and siblings think that pie is a super extra-special treat, particularly Apple pie. My dad even got me special pie apples last summer so I would make him an apple pie.
