Pies, Pies, Pies!!
« on: October 25, 2006, 08:00:59 AM »
The talk of pies in the UP thread has got me thinking..

Let's talk about pies!!  What is your favourite pie?   When do you like to eat pie?  Do you have any favourite pie stories?  Do you make pie?  Do you only buy pie?  Is pie a treat?

I could go on and on...  I think I'll go eat some pie!!

I love chicken pot pie. This is my favourite recipe, but I always add mushrooms as well.

I love pie! Sweet and Savory. As a kid we used to go to Marie Callenders and my favorite sweet one was Sour Cream Blueberry. Yum!

A funny pie experience: My former SIL (brother's ex) made amazing apple pie using apples from her parents' farm. For my brother's 30th birthday, she made 30 pies and had his friends arrive at the house one at a time, each carrying a home-made apple pie! We ate pie for weeks!

Pie is a big deal in our house.  My kids eat it for breakfast when I make it.  They got that from one of DD's soccer coaches in San Diego.  She had a breakfast pie party every Thanksgiving morning.  We always attended!

Her story is really good.  Her mom used to cook an extra apple pie so that on Thanksgiving morning, her family could eat the pie and she wouldn't have to worry about feeding them, she could cook in peace.  They moved to a new city and the kids bragged to the neighbourhood kids that they got to eat pie for breakfast on Thanksgiving.  The neighbours thought it was a joke and turned up Thanksgiving morning with a pie.  The Pie Party was born and the tradition has lasted 20 years!

My kids love pie for breakfast.  Their favourite is Lemon Meringue.  mine is apple.  DH's is raisin.

I learned to make pastry from my grandmother and honed it later with some help from my MIL.  My mom refused to make pastry.

I make pies for special occasions, or if I have that huge desire for pie.  I don't much like bought pies.

My parents and siblings think that pie is a super extra-special treat, particularly Apple pie.  My dad even got me special pie apples last summer so I would make him an apple pie.

I massively, massively LOVE mince pies.  I'd never had one until I moved to the UK for the first time & OMG, I was in HEAVEN.

Now whenever I buy a box, you can be assured they will be gone before the end of the week :).

I make a 'fake chicken' (ie Quorn) and leek pie for Christmas dinner...and all the damn meat eaters end up scoffing it as well as their turkey!!!

I've been eating a lot of chicken pot pies lately.  I guess because it's a great comfort food, but my favorite is apple pie.

Mmmmmmmmmmm! Pie!  ;D

Pie is my fave dessert, hands down. Pumpkin is first choice but just about any pie will do in a pinch.

I make pretty decent pastry when I can be bothered.
